Received collection notice, funny

Hi. I was going over the mail after my trip and I found a collections notice from Bell South. I got rid of them some time ago, but apparently there was still an outstanding balance that I never paid.

I am reading this notice and I was struck by the wording. It was really hilarious.

it said things like "Failure to pay will result in further attempts to collect this debt" and my favorite, "Time is not on your side".

Uh-oh. Time is not on my side.

I found the whole thing kind of weird. Is it supposed to scare people into paying a debt? Do these notices always do this?

LOL, I'd have preferred a note like "Balance Due: $80.55"

rather than "time is NOT on your side" and all kinds of other vaguely threatening language.

Nah, I don't even care about the amount, I'll just pay it - I owe them the money and it was an oversight on my part.

typically, a company like bell south will sell all of their debt in large amounts to collection agencies.

80 bucks would have been no fun in college for me either. That's like two kegs. Now it's lunch. Life is funny.
