Your right silent method, my parents had 2 of them, the first one was just the sweetest she could be then she got parvo or something and died, then they decided to get another one because the first one was so sweet...
Now, thinking back, when the dog was biting my arm till it bled once, she was probably playing, but her bite hurt bad....and i hated that dog.

Any dog can go bad, even the loving Labs, Goldens..
They are Animals and can be unpredictable..
Pits in larger a percentage are more aggressive by nature
no matter what, just like Rotts.

We went with smaller Chihuahuas because when they nip it won't be damaging.
They are very protective and Uber Alert..

There are dogs just as capable as tearing people up that do so with much less frequency than the pitbull. Upbringing and environment have a good deal to do with it. However, it's my experience that many seemingly "nice" pitbulls, when exited, have a "breaking point" where after they become exesively rough and dangerously agressive.

I've wrestled around with the big airedale down my street quit a bit. He is VERY strong and is quite a challange. He will take my wrist in his mouth and hold it WITHOUT putting any pressure on my arm (his teeth don't even touch my arm). He does this by taking my wrist into his mouth and locking his jaw in such a position that I cannot romove it by pulling to the side (my hand won't slip through) nor by pulling to the front (his k-9 teeth are too big)!

The family also has a miniture wiener dog who plays with the airedale. The big guy couldn't be more gentile with the little pooch.





Of course, given the notion to do so, the airedale could eat my arm and have the little wiener dog for a snack!

I have been around dogs all my life...I had several breeds including springers, golden retrivers , german shepards, basenji and greyhounds.....As far as retrievers I can tell that they are on eof the most friendliest breed....if they are kept alone for too long they will try to get our and find people to play and socialize with...

I am curious to see that website that claims "frequently reported attacks are from retrievers".....

It's math. There are MORE retrievers and labs per capita. Thus, more complaints re: attacks from those breeds.

DId anyone mention Chows? I was bitten by a Chow and a neighbor had a face nearly torn off by her own CHow. I would have kicked that damn dog in the face and beaten it's ass, but the owners were in the living room when it happened. I still should have done it.

Let's ask this: You have a 2.5 year old child. Assuming you had to make the decision, would you prefer that your child be locked in a room alone for an hour with a random pitbull or a random black lab?

I've been around a LOT of Rotties. One of the guys who I see at Starbuck's has two German style Rotts that go over 200lbs. They're extremely gentle dogs, and completely approachable.

My brother and sister-in-law raise and breed Rotts. None of them have bad temperments at all. And with all the dog shows I've been to I've not seen any bad tempered Rotts.

They have had some bad breeding in the past, but the breeders have been working very diligently to breed that out of them, and it's part of the breed standard. Rotts like Mastifs tend to evoke more fear just because of their look than for what they actually do. A Rott thinks it's a lap dog.
