English Mastiffs are among the sweetest, gentleest dogs in existance. They will rip a throat out... but only if it is a stranger coming into their home. A child could stab a mastiff in the butt with a fork and the dog wouldn't snap at him.

Pits have gotten a bum rap. They are usually cuddle bugs.

The only dog that is vicious by nature is the Tibetan Mastiff. They are okay with their family... but they will attack unprovoked anyone else on site... and they ferocity of their attack if tremendous.

Airedales were also used to fight lions in Africa. However, I know of a big, young male in the neighborhood who is a sweet, easy-going, and trustworthy dog. (Note: trustworthy is realitive with dogs.)


Code summed it up in his first reply - Breeds are prone to certain temperments, but 90% of a dog's temper is from how they are raised and treated.

I do believe the pitbull is the most unstable dog personality I know of. I've played with all kinds of dogs with all kinds of temperments - including mastiffs, pitbulls, rottweillers, aikidas. In my experience, all the pitbulls I've played with have a "breaking point" where they go from playful doggy to rip your throat out.


I will say that the dog I've been most scared of was a big male dalmation that I believe would have killed me had it not been caged.

Rottweillers are mostly 110lb lap dogs. Almost any breed can have temperment problems if not bread correctly. Neglected dogs are the most likely to be dangerous and ill tempered.

Mastifs are cupcakes. HUGE cupcakes, but cupcakes none the less.

When I was 1.5 years old, I was riding on the back of my dog who had just been nuetred. I slipped off and my heel hit him right in the area that his testes used to be. He then yapped at me as a reflex, biting me in the face.

I vote the most dangerous dog is the one you kick in the balls (or area where the balls were).

Labs prolly are responsible for a laot of bites. Though incredibly friendly, they are also very protective.

My lab grew weary of the lack of respect shown by the UPS man and faked a lunge at his ankle though no contact was made.

When not gurading the house, he is the friendliest dog in the world.
