A large group of friends and I went out to Chapel Hill, NC on Monday night for the NCAA Championship game. After the victory, we all went different ways, getting split up in the celebrations that ensued afterward.
Two of my friends go to a local club by themselves, one's bigger than most, and a built trainer (6'1", 210+), the other normal (5'10", 180). Both have some experience throwing blows.
Near the end of the night, an apparently homosexual guy started basically groping on the bigger one of my friends. He obviously told him to back the f* off, which immediately drew a crowd of 4-5 dudes, accusations of homophobia, and immediate shit talking. (I personally think this was a setup or just used as an excuse to brawl.) My friends tried to leave but as one said "they could see in their eyes these dudes weren't letting them out of there w/o a fight."
End the end, both of my buddies ended up tangling w/ 2 or 3 guys each - they got a few hits in here and there but mainly remember being pummeled by fists they never saw. The big guy's face was turned to hamburger but no worse for the wear. My other buddy basically had 4 teeth close to falling out and will now probably have root canals and braces as payback for trying to help out a friend.
So the moral for me is - after having successfully (and somewhat proudly) avoiding fights since I was in H.S., I'm now seriously considering spending $ and a few hours a week @ the local boxing gym. Being a "good person" and trying to avoid trouble apparently isn't always enough.
