RAM question

AAP

Plat Hero
Platinum
4 gigs DDR3

vs

6 gigs DDR2

Which is better, assuming they are running on the exact same system and processor?

I think I'd go with the DDR3 at 4 gb, but ONLY IF your mother board will use it. If not, the board will treat it as DDR2, and go the same speed as if you put DDR2 in it. Also, many mother boards are not capable of "seeing" more than 4 gb of ram.

It is :

AMD Athlon™ II X2 Dual-Core Processor 2.8ghz

it depends.

easiest way i can explain it is this:

how much RAM does the specific application need? requirements never mention anything about DDR2 or DDR3 just amount of RAM.

if you can use DDR3 then yuo should...it's faster

Also, DDR3 works best in 3s and not 2s....so 3 GB, 6 GB, etc...

Well there are only two slots on the machine I am looking at that offers 6 gig DDR3

The specs are :

Operating system Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T6500 [2.1GHz, 2MB L2, 800MHz FSB]

Memory 6GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [2 DIMMs]

This is from HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers and more >>choose their all-on-one 600t series and customize. You get 4 gig DDR3 there with an option to upgrade to 6 gig DDR3

Same one available at BestBuy, (same HP, same 600t series) has the standard 4 gig DDR3 amount in it. But with an AMD Athlon™ II X2 2.8 processor on it.

Neither say how many memory slots are available to use. So not sure if it is 3 x 2 gig sticks or 2 x 3 gig sticks.
