Rack-Lockouts and Floorpresses

Does anybody rotate these two exercises with any frequency?

I remember westside used to be big on racklockouts. I still see them mention floor presses pretty regularly in their articles, but I seldom see anyone posting on this board as using it often.

I know BigOkie and me had this conversation, and he and I are both fans of the floorpress. When My shoulder is healthy, I like to rotate this about every 3rd workout, as it totally takes out the speed i get off my chest.

Whats everbody's opinion on this subject?

I don't really like rack lockouts or floor presses. I don't ever do them as an ME exercise. I may do them as a supplemental movement.

I would rather use boards and pause on the boards for a 1-2 count with feet off of the floor to simulate the floor press.

And, I would rather do rack lockouts off of a suspended chain because the motion is more natural and forgiving. It seems to be easier on the shoulders.

And there you have it! Good day!

Floor presses are one of those exercises that seems to only TEST my strength...it doesn't build my strength. So I rarely do it for a ME Exercise.

As far as Lockouts I don't like them as a ME Exercise either...but I will use them as a tricep exercise with a close grip.

I talked to Okie too..and I am kinda curious as to what I would get out of Reverse Band Floor Presses...might try them out in the next couple weeks.

Rack lockouts are best as a supplemental exercise not as ME. I tried rack lockouts as a max once but it seems to put weird stress on the elbows and forearms.

I like floor presses as supplemental for 3 sets of 10 type of movements.

The different board presses are at the top of the list in terms of max effort stuff.

i like the floor press. it's great for a lockout builder especially when you use the chain. the rack lockouts are alright. i do them mainly to change things up a bit and do something a little bit different. if you're doing the lockouts off the pins then it's gonna hammer those elbows.

FWIW:

i think floor press is great for bringing up weak areas. most people who do not these have weak shoulders and dont like them because they cant use any weight. its nice to be able to press and not have to worry about an arch, etc. remember, leave your ego at the door. ANYONE can board press 100lbs more than they can bench. it takes a real man to do a movement in front of other people they are weak at.

rack lockouts: i think westside has moved away from these. it doesn't really simulate any part of a bench press because of where the weight is resting (on the pins) and the fact that you have eliminated the eccentric part of the movement.

I am a fan of both of those movements.

First rack lockouts, love em. Use them as supplement exercise though, not for ME. Usually do sets of 3 or 5. And I really love overhead rack lockouts, moving the bar about 3-5". I do these after most speed bench sessions. Work up through sets of 3 and then go to a single. Heavy single!

Floor presses: I agree with Irish that alot of people may not like these because they are weak at them. If you are week at an exercise, that's the exercise you should be doing! Train your weaknesses to make yourself stronger! I rotate in floor presses quite often, because I am relatively weak at them. I am really gonna push these up in the next few months, but from now on I am not gonna do a ME movement without some bands!

Just my opinion, maybe out in left field but it sure as hell is working for me! Later all.

I love floors. BUt only when my shoulder will take it. And lately since i quit raw benching its able to take them! We did them Monday after speed and did sets of three with around 200lb of band tension at the top. The only time the weight was bar weight was the bottom 2 inches. This was the best feeling movement i had done in awhile. I think i just have to be warmed up first. BUt i like them. They will make you stronger. Were doing them again this monday. And i have been doing them in a variety of ways in the last couple months. They work.

Rack lockouts: i dont like them and never do them. They have there place i guess but i would rather do a Max 4 or 5 board. And if i did rack lockouts i guess i would do reps of 3 to 5 cause singles to a max in that movement make me sore as hell in the elbows.

same here........the rack lockouts are ok if done very rare ,but they hurt the shit out of my shoulders...now the floor presses i like a lot...i like doinh them all types of ways, but always close-grip and always with the legs straight....i like the boards with chains and bands.........
