I think you've brought up several interesting points. Unfortunately there will never be a definitive answer to appease everyone.












Sidenote: My boss likes to talk (although she'd deny it) about how she was a poor Chinese kid growing up in Spanish Harlem and how her family were peasants and she married a Chinese man of mandarin decent -- blah blah blah * yawn* and what hard life and blah blah and how she's with a Jewish man now and how people only see her Chinese face, blah blah blah...

And you know something - I find that offensive on so many levels.
Because to hear it said it's like she's asking the person to make or place judgment of some kind. At the very least she seems to want to solicit some sort of reaction by constantly shoving in someone elses face who or what she judges herself by.

It all comes down to respect, respect for yourself, other people's way of life, and not living in the past.


If you have any self-respect, maturity, intelligence, you won't spend your life/time hating some race because of skin color. You won't even spend time hating because of history. You'll teach your kids to respect EVERYONE. The immigrant worker picking fruit/general laborer/minimum wage earner deserves a great deal of respect for his hard work, and the desire to do a job, a number of Americans with decreasingly alarming work ethic have no inclination to do.


If you don't understand why people need to get along, look at the current state of our country. We live under a new, constant threat of potential attacks at home. A Chinese/Haitian/Mexican/Korean/African might save your life, pull your kids to safety, or die trying to keep you alive. It happened in the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon.
