Questions about competing

OK.

1. What's a good first show to compete in for a juicer? I'm not natural. I'm not huge either. I feel like even a beginner juicer show would have monsters in it. I'm 212 probably around 12% right now.

2. I have a 9-5 office job with occasional travel. Would I need to take time off in the week(s) leading up to my show? For tanning and diet and last minute stuff?

3. Where can I get good tips on how to tweak myself in the last few days? I hear all about dropping water, salt, etc then eating carbs right before heading on stage.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

muscle mania but the amateur levels first

You dont want to do one of the gimmicky shows that are too small as they are very unprofessional and just wierd.

will take you only 2 comps to go right to the real level from what I know

I know a guy who does 1 cycle a year ONLY and is able to place and look insane as well

In the off season his still in shape.

muscle mania is natural?

on the website they mention testing

"Because the Musclemania World Championships is a natural bodybuilding event, at the discretion of each event promoter, the Top 5 Finalists in each Division or Weight Class may be subject to a drug test by urinalysis and/or polygraph methods immediately following their performance at the Finals. Attached is a complete list of substances which will be included. If a contestant is tested positive for any of the listed substances, the he/she will be disqualified from the competition, forfeit any prizes and/or rewards and be unable to compete in any Musclemania event worldwide for at least 2 years. Also, if a contestant refuses to submit to drug testing or attempts to manipulate and/or alter the a urinalysis sample, then he/she will be immediately disqualified from the competition."

so they might lolol

there's no way they test these bastards

You do the math:)

;)

The guy I know is FAR from natty when he goes lol

The testing is selective.

he was on Var, Test, Deca and Primo last time

3) droping water is easy shit.. take dyzaizde the day before.. drop ur water at 7pm..
salt loading is not really used..

In the usa you would do a level 1 npc show an depending on your hight with your other stats an the pic I saw you could place 2 you don't need but the last couple of days off if at all before a show ( I train a landscaper he works in 90 degree + heat an only takes off friday he took 2nd in state championships. 3 anyone whos competed a few times can tell you what to do the last week before a show. Doing it right is the most important thing in contest prep. GOOD LUCK AN GET ON STAGE .

I think you could find a small NPC show in your area and if you can win your class you can then go on to a National Qualifying show. Probably try out the Jr. Nationals first before jumping into the Main Nationals big show or the USA's.

1. my first show was an NPC state show. they will have both novice and open or grand prix events. The novice shows generally have fewer weight classes but is for first time competitors. and the grand prix has a few more.weight classes and for some comps if you place in the top 2 in your class you qualify for nationals. IMO these are good for a first timer.

2. Maybe for the last couple days before the comp. for one you won't be in the right frame of mind. also you will be needing to load up on carbs every couple hours. its just better not to stress about anything at this point.

3.<<<<<<<this guy. there are several little tricks or methods of what to do before prejudging. some take niacin, some do honey or red wine, some eat rice cakes with peanut butter and jelly and raisinettes. its stuff you may want to try out when have a chance. like niacin can make all your veins pop out like mc'donald's straws but also can make you hot and flush. or a little alcohol like a small glass of tablewine can thin your blood just a little to bring out vascularity.

Definitely choose NPC as the sanctioning body. I agree in doing a local novice level show b/c you have to eventually get out of novice. Its a graduating process. There are many techniques for dialing in, but as a novice i would keep it simple. Check out the competition this year to see how you stand for next year. As a novice, your first objection is to learn your body and see how it responds to dehydration, therefore, i would start precontest phase somewhere b/w 16-20 weeks before the show. Bring it down nice and slowly. You will need the last week off of work for prep unless you really have a gravy job. Keep proteins sky high, take in only good fats, gradually bring down the carbs each week while introducing cardio more aggressively each week. Without knowing any stats, just as an example.....start at 20 weeks and bring those carbs down each week slightly, for example, 300, 280, 260...etc. Watch the sugars, so during that time eat carbs from oatmeal, brown rice, and broccoli and cauliflower. Remember, this is just one way of skinning a cat, but for a novice its the simplest way. I use a different technique but remember and novice has to ease there way into this and learn about there response to dieting and dehydration. I'm here if you need in any way pm me.

Thanks man, thats the way i use to do things, but now i do like you. High protein, high fats, and minimal to no carbs......keto diet....and do check urine every morning with keto strips. I begin sodium loading 10 days out from the wednesday before the saturday morning show, during this sodium loading phase i also load with potassium and magnesium to lock it all in the muscle and to prevent cramping. When i awaken the thursday morning there will be absolutely no sodium from that point on. Just no sodium proteins and fats with maybe 150-200g's carbs on thursday and friday. That saturday morning 30-45min before prejudging its a real big serving of all natty Peanut butter to fill me out. This diet is far superior to anything i've ever witnessed. But, it still isn't the way i work with a novice competitor, a novice must learn the way they respond to nutrients and dehydration. When your near 5% BF with the keto diet, you can eat 2 tablespoons of PB and go wait in front of a mirror and see big time changes. Over the years i began timing what i eat with my watch a go in front of the mirror to better able to predict how fast a certain food reacts to my body, that way on contest day you take the guesswork out of the equation.

I'll take clean building phase to mean year round since i don't get sloppy in the offseason. It really doesn't change all that much. The one constant is protein is always sky high no matter what and that doesn't change.....nothing more anabolic than protein. The fats will come from your protein choices like lean cuts of red meat, a few whole eggs/yolks, healthy fish fats from talapia and other fish, lean ground turkey. The variable here is the carbohydrate. If you want to look decent year round....clean building phase, take in 200-300 carbs but the key is watching the sugars. I call it sugar deprivation. Take your carbs in from only oatmeal, brown rice, and california blend( broccoli and cauliflower), and thats it period nothing else. If your proteins are high, and restrict sugars, and take in moderate amount of good fats, you will stay looking good year round. Tweak cardio if necessary or slightly adjust that 200-300 range of carbs a little lower to look a little tighter.

I know you will have to dedicate 12-16wks before the show the majority of your free time,,dieting,,training,,eating,,cooking etc....
