Question Re: BMI/Body Fat...

First and foremost, forgive me, as I am probably in the wrong forum.

That aside, I'm not into bodybuilding, but I had a question that I'm sure someone here could answer.

I checked my BMI and my body fat percentage today with the help of a couple personal trainers. My BMI was 20.2, and my body fat percentage was 4.2%. I'm 21 years old, male, 5 11, and 148 lbs (give or take 1).

I know 4.2 is ungodly low, but my question is, am i just in really good shape or is that dangerously unhealthy? If the latter, what can it lead to and what's the best way to raise it?

that kind of bf% is roughly what some bodybuilders would have on the day of a competition. at 5 11, many of them would probably be at least 220-230lbs if not more. BUT, they won't stay that way for a really long period of time. at your height you'd really have to be around 170lbs at 10-15% BFto be healthy (assuming you don't dig being larger than a BMI ~ 25)

first off, how long have you been at this weight? and second, try to keep in mind, depending on what kind of test they did, and what kind of calipers they used your body fat % could be +-3%. If you have been this weight for a while, and didnt loose weight to get to this point, you should be fine, some people have low body fat %. Keep in mind if you are looking to gain weight, this will be somewhat hard for you, but you will always have an easy time getting lean. you would look great at 185lbs at 6-8%. good luck

4.2% isn't really 4.2%.

Just like Flex Wheeler being calipered years ago precontest at 1.5%.

BAT and essential organ fat isnt included in that measurement - neither is intra muscular fat
