Overhead all the way for me.
And when it gets heavy for me to hold (300+ lbs) I use wrist wraps.
Yeah I use overhand, and wrist bands help? I should invest in them so I don't move to a under grip.![]()
Don't use wrist bands it really helps develop forearm and wrist strength gripping that bar, use chalk
Ooh thanks for the advice! That'd be great, need to build on forearm strength, my forearms are fairly weak ATM, so chalk to help with grip.
Thanks bro![]()
Chalk is amazing I never understood why people used it until I purchased some. The bar just sticks to your hand! Plus you look badass![]()

No chalk policy at my gym
And i can not griphold as much as i can deadlift. So wristbands is what i use with high weights
I bought chalk just haven't used it yet. I can handle it so far. Ill prob need it when I break 400lbs. If you do get straps use them for heavy shrugs and maybe heavy DB rows but if you keep up with deads ,grip should keep up with the rest. Keep it no gloves, no straps on deadlifts to build a killer grip.

Build strength and power more the less, I figure overhand would be best, I'm only lifting light atm but was curious for when weights get high for me lol which will be soon haha I'm a little guy >.< lol
over-under is best because it will allow you to lift more weight (with rare exception: some people are freaks and lift monstrous weight with overhand)I can dead lift 550+ with over-under and chalk and a belt. with overhand maybe 435. I weigh 198 give or take.
That's monsterous lol
I'll be struggling DLin 75-100kg lol (200lbs)
Over hand would give me better results in longrun yeah?
overhand is good for building muscle mass, but if you wanna big DL and want to rip big weight off the floor with easy Mixed grip (over-under) is the way to go.
Oh okay. Sweet, thanks for that extra info![]()
no doubt. good luck and work hard. ALSO something that works for me. I don't go above 5 reps on DL, ever! form turns to shit and back injuries are always a concern when working the posterior chain. I do speed reps. for example a speed workout for me is 12-20 singles at 405 with 30-60 seconds rest between reps to reset form and catch my breath.
I'm currently doing the SL5x5
So yeah I won't be doing more then 5 reps, and I don't understand what you mean with 12-20 singles :/ I'm new to this, yeah I take a 45sec break between sets each time, keep up intestisty but allow for a breather n reset
Wait you said break between reps? :/ your gonna need to explain this alittle more to me, I'm clueless atm :/ 405 is 202.5kg roughly which is all I'm understanding lol :/
OK sorry for being vague.
step 1: warm up
step 2: load 405 pounds on bar.
step 3: set up and and perform my deadlift with perfect form and rip it off the ground (hold at the top for a one-Mississippi-two Mississippi)
step 4: drop weight and rest for 30-60 seconds
step 5: repeat steps 3 and 4 12-20 times depending on how I feel. Once I can do 20 reps with 30 seconds rest I bump the weight up 5-10%
Ooh I get you, 20 reps? Thought you done no more the 5? :/
I warm up overhand and do my work sets with a mixed grip. I don't believe in using straps. If you can't hold the weight, it's too heavy, is what I believe.
an underhand grip on deadlifts is more risk for a torn bicep... it is usually the bi that gets injured when lifting mixed... with that said i dont even think ive ever seen anyone deadlift with both underhand...
overhand is the way to go until you have to switch to mixed, which is the strongest...
i do almost all my sets, even the lighter ones mixed, to keep that grip strong... seeing as you are lifting for power/strength, imo this is best...
