Question for BBB

Hey, Big Bad Buff,

How do you like Needsize's 5x5? I'm interested, because I'm looking for a simple program this summer.

Thanks,
R33t

I love it. It was a true work of genius imo. It's simple and very effective. The 5x5 he posted in the training section, is based on progressive resistance, and uses the same weight for all 5 sets, with the weight being raised every workout, provided you get all 5x5 on the same weight. It also has 2 other accessory exercises, for 2 sets each, in the 8-10 rep range to focus on hypertrophy as opposed to strength. So chest day would look like this

bench 315 5x5
incline dumbell press 2x8-10 reps
incline flyes 2x8-10 reps

It is also based on a 4 or 5 day split, not 2 day like the original version. His verson also has variations (such as 5x3) that you switch to when you plateau on 5x5.

I especially like his routine:

day 1 chest/calves
day 2 back/shoulders
day 3 and 4 rest
day 5 bis/tris/calves
day 6 quads/hams/abs
day 7 rest

Nelson is probably the last person on the board you want to take training and cycling advice from so be very leery of what he suggests. Remember, his background is supplements, which for most part are useless anyway.

Thanks, BBB. Appreciate it. :) I’m using Excel to track the program. I was leery of 5x5 because of a past shoulder injury, but my fiance, a physical therapist, said I’m ok as I go up in weights. Surgery, physical therapy, and training conservatively helped a lot.

THis coming from someone who claims to have read my book which is 75% training. I dare BBB (Juice Authority) to quote one page from it.

The 5X5 routine works very well. EVERYTHING works very well for a while. It's essentially Vince Girondas 6X6 routine with 1 rep and 1 set excluded.

I would also be leery of what BBB says since this is a guy who takes steroids non stop, has not been able to recover on CLomid even though he continues to argue its merits ( do a search on the anabolic board). He has a wife and kid yet spends up to 6 hours a day on message boards, mostly to harass me. How sad is that?

5x5 is underway. I'll update goals, setbacks, and progress sporadically. Best of luck to anyone using the program. ;)

5x5 is what powerlifters have been using for years. I guess Needsize's is more of a variation (or perfection on that). It's great for building strength, but the body adapts to ALL routines after a while and growth stagnates. See:

Once you're done with 5x5 if you want to experience a short but intense workout, do a search on Charles Poliquin's German Volume Training (he did not invent said system but did some writing/modification on it). Simple premise. First, use free weight exercises as opposed to machines - squat, bench, etc.

Take a weight on an exercise where you fail at 20 reps and that's your weight for the exercise. Have a cheap stop watch handy and do 10 sets of 10 for that weight with 60 seconds in between. Prepare for a pump like you've never had before and soreness the next day that is horrifying and in 3-4 weeks prepare for to be quite a bit stronger.

GVT is fun to switch to for a while, the change is great both physically and mentally as well.

Give it up you fucktard. You're starting to bore me.

Nelson -

Your one claim to fame is that you used be a writer for T-Mag. When they learned of your incompetence they FIRED you. That's right, Nelson was FIRED from probably the biggest joke magazine in bodybuilding. Pathetic.

Why anyone would ask advice from someone who conducts himself in this manner is beyond me.

And he knows what went down behind closed doors at T-Mag? Amazing.

What went down is that you were FIRED, which freed up your time to write books about how the supplement companies were all out to get us. Then after preaching against the supplement companies what does Nelson do? He comes out with his own line of supplements to push. LOL.

Someone please ban this asshole.

Thanks, BBB,

I love the overall setup of this program. It is almost too simple. No matter how many variations there are, props to Needsize. ;)
