Question about Food labels

Naeem

New member
I have been wondering for a while about the calorie/fat/protein/carb factors that come on food labels

For example food will be....

550 Calroies
25 protein
25 fat
25 carb

Now, is it 550 calories TOTAL, or is it 550 +
+100 cal (25 x4 protein),
+250 cal (25x10 fat [ rounding up from 9 to 10])
+ 150 cal (25x6 carb)

So is the meal total sitting at 550 calories, or 1050 all things added together? Thanks any help is much appreciated.

PS - This board is the best thing to happen to my workouts ever, thanks again.

labels

The calories list contents by category, so when it says 500 calories, that means that the serving size has 500 calories. Sometimes the serving size is only a fraction of the can/bottle/bag/box or whatever.

You have to read the label.

If it says 'serving size, 25 grams, 6 crackers' and then says 40 calories, it means 6 crackers have 40 calories. If it lists other nutrients, it means they are in the 40 calories, not added to it.

they give you the total cals for 1 serving. then they break the calories down according the following:

1 g protein = 4 cals
1 g carb = 4 cals
1 g fat = 9 cals

so, when you see something, say a serving on the back of baked lays:

1 serving = 120 cals.

breakdown:

Fat: 3 g (27 cals)
Carbs: 22 g (88 cals)
Protein: 2 g (8 cals)

total cals: 123 cals (+- 3 cals)

so that's it.
