want to add some pull-ups to my intermediate 5x5. i was wondering what day would be the best add them on monday or wednesday. i do to much on friday with all the extra arm stuff so it cant be friday. what do you think???

sorry to jack this thread for a hot second,....

cs- not doing the 5x5 but doing heavy rows and t-bar rows on my back day...you think it;s better to incorporate pull ups after both exercises? i did that last week and i only could get about 6-7. once again sorry for the thread jack mcnasty...it's somewhat applicable to what was asked though lol

I'm not CS but I doubt the order of your back exercises makes that much difference, when you're just doing pullups, rows, and T-bar rows. In fact, if I were you, I'd rotate them so that one workout, I start w/ pullups and go hard and heavy, and finish with the other crap. Next time, reverse the order, so you aren't prioritizing one over the other.

I agree with PB that, if you want to do them all on one day, rotating them would be a good way to go if you don't want to prioritize any one lift. You might stick with one order for a given training cycle then switch it up the next; picking weights would be difficult if you vary the order from week to week since you'll be able to do more when you're fresh (when you're doing that lift first) and less when you're fatigued (when it's later in the order). Obviously, if you have a reason to prioritize one (e.g., bent rows to correct a perpendicular pressing-pulling imbalance) do that lift first.

To be honest, I think the problem you're having (being completely toasted by the time you get around to pullups) is one good argument for spreading volume out over a couple of days. You could do the pullups on a different day or even do chins as a "biceps" exercise whenever you do arms.

yes, my biggest problem is being burnt when i do pull ups after 2 compound movements. i can usually get about 15 if i start with them...and about 6 if i don't.

doing chins on arm day hmmmm....maybe i'll give that a shot and throw in btn pull downs in place of pull ups for my back day. think that will work?

Well, I've never done a BTN Pulldown in my life, but it couldn't hurt if you just want a little bit of overhead pulling volume at the end of your back day. Just go fairly light then, and push chins as your main overhead pull when you do them with arms.
