Protein intake

I work out six times per week and consume 1 gram per pound of body weight of protein. My question is, how much can be consumed at one time without it just being shit out. I usually take 50g's at a time.
 
It's impossable to give an exact number at once as not everyone is the same. I'd say 50grams is a good number

M18 is right. You can't really generalize how much protein you can consume. For example, someone who is "on" should be able to utilize more protein than someone who isn't. Same goes for the size of the person. I don't think someone who is 170lbs needs as much protein as someone who weighs 250lbs.

A good way to gauge if you taking in to much protein is whether or not you're getting all backed up. If you taking in what should be enough fiber and still backed up, you may want to back off on the protein intake a bit

Good post. Excatly what i was thinking.
 
Diet Board. Having said that, I agree with M18 as well. I get at least 50 grams every 3 hours, sometimes every 2 1/2 hours.

I read somewhere.......that 40 to 50 grams is about as much as the human digestive system can assimilate at one time. I'm sure its different from person to person.
 
If I'm taking in more than 40g from real food sources (meat) I take a digestive enzyme along with it. I do like to stay within 40-50g, although my bedtime shake is often close to 75g.

Me too. I take ginger root as a enzyme.
 
I take at least two meals per day with 100mg or more of protein per sitting. It's rather easy.....one 50mg shake with one package tuna (50mg). Fortunately my body has not had a digestive problem yet.

But at the same time you have no way to measure how much of that protein actually got utilized.
