Protein/Creatine Mix Right Before Workout?

I usually workout on an empty stomach in the morning. Today I worked out a little later than usual, and I downed a 40g protein shake w/5g of Creatine less than 30 min before walking into the gym.

I felt good power, and I got one of the best pumps I've had in quite a while.

Does this have anything to do with loading up on protein/creatine first? Or was it just a good day for me?
 
it was probably just a good day for you. You want to make sure you have something in your stomach before working out but a lot of times a shake or creatine is not the best answer because they can upset your stomach.
 
how many g's of carbs were in it.
some studies have shown that taking in a shake with protein and carbs will give you a much better pump, and will actually build muscle WHILE you're working out.
ive noticed that taking in 5g creatine preworkout gives me extra strength, usually a few extra reps.

Carbs were minimal, it was EAS Simply Whey protein, which has virtually no carbs or fat. I felt really good though and for some reason I'm not as sore as usual. I will try it again with my leg workout tommorow.
 
try adding some carbs the next time, maybe 50g
youll notice a big boost
you werent as sore because the pre w/o shake also helps your recovery

I'll try that. You're probably recommended a protein shake that has a high quality carb content, like a weight gainer.
 
I always eat atleast a little, and I always take my creatine before I workout, no matter what I'm doing(weights or any form of cardio

It always gives me a really good pump).
 
it was probably a good day although creatine definatly gives a boost look into ancient strength three types of creatine taken pre and post workout
