Pros who crashed & burned on AS

"Remember a few years ago the up and coming bodybuilding star Don Long? Well he is on kidney dialisys for life. Paul Dillet? Lots of health problems including a very badly depressed immune system. Mike Francios? VERY badly damaged digestive system. Paul Demayo? Quit because of the initial or perhaps advanced phases of kidney and liver problems."

Is all of this true? Isn't Paul DIlett still competing? I saw him at the gym not too long ago and he looked huge.

What other pros or well-known amateurs have had serious health problems related to their bodybuilding lifestyle? I'm curious. The Mentzer brothers' deaths don't seem to be related to pharmaceuticals. Dennis Newman had leukemia, but that could have just been bad luck. Whatshisname won a Grand Prix some years ago and keeled over dead (from overuse of diuretics) after the show.

Who else? What happened to Rich Gaspari, for instance?:fro:

I think most of these problems aren't caused by steriods but other drugs such as insulin, lasix, and about a dozen other drugs bb take. I belive Paul Dillets problem was due to insulin and his whole body cramped up and he had to be carried of stage.

Yes, you're right of course. AS are the least dangerous drugs the pros are doing these days. But there wasn't room in the subject line to be more accurate. The diuretics can be very dangerous, causing sudden unexpected heart attacks.

Can doing insulin, lasix, etc. cause adult-onset diabetes?

ercole........
Thats funny that you mention RichGaspari. I was talking with Rich yesterday. I know him through a friend of ours. I usually see Rich about once a month. He is still big and lean, I would guess he's a solid 240lbs. Didn't ask him if competition is in his future. I think it might be! When I find out I'll post it. As for health he's top notch.

well after I had gotten huge at 21, and a couple years of hard training and steroid use, I hurt my back, tore a muscle, had to quit workin out cold turkey, over the years I stayed at 200 cause I was workin at ups liftin boxes and all, then moved to LA to finish school, and was on a steady diet of low income, beer, pot, and not enough food...........well I dried up to 175 after no training for 4.5 years...........decided to get back in the gym, in 3 months naturally I got up to 225 off andro and creatine, but not good shape and hardness, started juicing and got to 240 with great shape and some size, and am currently training at golds venice, Ive been from the top to the bottom and back to or on the way to the top, I can tell you that nothing feels worse than going from 235 lbs, of solid muscle to 175 lbs with a shitty shape and no ass.............I can say today that I feel better, I am trying to get to 260, but sometimes the drug use can make you crazy and out of control and you feel like am I gonna die from 30cc's at once or what...............in the future that is..........but now I am doing great, I got casted in a major music stars video......via.....a talent scout for the production agency came in to golds.........and out of 15 other bb's that auditioned, I was the one who got the part in the video........hopefully I will be in it alot.......so now I am doing better and feel great, except I got a cold after takin a shitload of stuff yesterday!

Like me, Paul Dillet has a very serious case of asthma that requires medication to control......an ailment of this type can surely impede any professional athlete...

Those of you with solid respitory systems should feel grateful. Trust me going thru a serious leg workpout with inpaired breathing is hell.

Paul is training for a comeback. He'll probably compete at the Ironman in February.

These health problems that pro bb have experienced would have happened anyway genetics plays a huge role. don long had a smaller kidney that he was born with; the dieting, high protein and diuretics just brought broblems sooner than what would have happened anyway. Dennis Newman and leukemia= GH? who knows. Mike Metzers family had a cardiac history as did he, high intensity training and androgentic drugs can raise blood pressure, again it would have happened eventually just sooner with help. Again if you are genically prone to loose your hair steroids will speed up the process, heart problems the same thing. Prone to mood swings and aggression, steroids will make worse. Everyone reacts differently.

A few of you have mentioned Rich Gaspari. He was a judge at the Masters O/Jantana. He looked to be in decent shape. It was mentioned that he would be doing the Masters O as soon as he became eligible. However, if he wants to win, and not just compete, he has a lot of work to do.

Cramp up is a sign of dehydration and a disturbance in the balance between sodium and pottassium.Taking lasix togheter with pottasium supplements in high dosages can cause this dangerous situation.See andreas muntzer, same shit.It were the diuretics that killed him.Though his kidneys, liver and heart were also in very bad shape, and that was thanks to the (high dosage) steroid use.

Paul DeMayo quit because of political reasons, along with being totally boned by Met RX. His 14 months in the can also put him out of the pro scene, but that will change if he can get a decent sponsor.
