After reading about insulin use for a long time, and talking a lot with a buddy of mine who has diabetes, I decided to give it a go. After a few months I can only say that it's an amazing drug. Extremely anabolic, and zero androgenic effects.
I started out with 2 IU and worked my way up, always keeping track of my bloodsugar. My buddy gave me an Accu-check compact, and I bought another one just in case the other failed.
I only use insulin after workouts. This is the only time of day I eat a lot of high-GI carbs.
One thing I found out, witch isn't covered in any of the stuff I've read, is that if I take the insulin shot right after the workout, I'll need two shakes of dextrose and maltodextrine.
Why? Because the body itself will handle the first shake. In fact, the humalog kicks in after 1 hour - 1h 15min.
This is just based on my own experience. If you have some opinions about this, please tell me.
So, my after workout regime looks like this:
+0:00 8IU Humalog. 1st Shake containing 6 grams creatine, 20 grams proteinpowder, and 55g dextrose/maltodextrine.
+1:00 2nd Shake containing 6 grams creatine, 20 grams proteinpowder, and 55g dextrose/maltodextrine.
+2:00 The danger is over and I can eat fats again.
This way my bloodsugar normaly never drops below 4,0. As you can see, I need 110 grams of carbs to handle 8 IU, and without the combination of the two types of carbs (dextrose and maltodextrine) I'd probably need even more. And even a slight increase of the dose, like 1 IU, will require more extra karbs than you'd might think. I only use Humalog. I can get any type I want but this is the fastest and safest one as I see it. What kind do you guys get and how do you use it?
I keep a syringe of Glucagon (injectable glucose) in the fridge, just in case.
Nice article about carbs, water, and salt: http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/magazine03/dextrose.htm
Any comments?=)
Sorry for my bad english, and I hope this was understandable. =)
