Propper insulin use.

After reading about insulin use for a long time, and talking a lot with a buddy of mine who has diabetes, I decided to give it a go. After a few months I can only say that it's an amazing drug. Extremely anabolic, and zero androgenic effects.

I started out with 2 IU and worked my way up, always keeping track of my bloodsugar. My buddy gave me an Accu-check compact, and I bought another one just in case the other failed.

I only use insulin after workouts. This is the only time of day I eat a lot of high-GI carbs.

One thing I found out, witch isn't covered in any of the stuff I've read, is that if I take the insulin shot right after the workout, I'll need two shakes of dextrose and maltodextrine.
Why? Because the body itself will handle the first shake. In fact, the humalog kicks in after 1 hour - 1h 15min.

This is just based on my own experience. If you have some opinions about this, please tell me.

So, my after workout regime looks like this:

+0:00 8IU Humalog. 1st Shake containing 6 grams creatine, 20 grams proteinpowder, and 55g dextrose/maltodextrine.

+1:00 2nd Shake containing 6 grams creatine, 20 grams proteinpowder, and 55g dextrose/maltodextrine.

+2:00 The danger is over and I can eat fats again.

This way my bloodsugar normaly never drops below 4,0. As you can see, I need 110 grams of carbs to handle 8 IU, and without the combination of the two types of carbs (dextrose and maltodextrine) I'd probably need even more. And even a slight increase of the dose, like 1 IU, will require more extra karbs than you'd might think. I only use Humalog. I can get any type I want but this is the fastest and safest one as I see it. What kind do you guys get and how do you use it?

I keep a syringe of Glucagon (injectable glucose) in the fridge, just in case.

Nice article about carbs, water, and salt: http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/magazine03/dextrose.htm

Any comments?=)

Sorry for my bad english, and I hope this was understandable. =)

Very good post bro, have you seen any big difference in gains using Humalog over not using it?Have you gained all lean muscle? Also are you using any aas with it?

Very controversial drug but enjoyed your thorough approach and description - coming from someone who will never use slin

I'd like to add that the protocol would need be drastically different for those using humulin in lieu of humalog hopefully anyone considering slin would recognize that immediately

Good job :)

15g per iu is a LOT ... think of it this way... each dextrose tab made for people that need sugar because they are going hypo, is only 5g dextrose...

IMO there are a couple important considerations when adding insulin,
1- Overall caloric intake- just because you add insulin, that doesnt give you a free pass to add 300-500 calories to your daily diet. I added insulin, so I dropped carbs out of one of my earlier meals to keep my overall intake the same.
2- timing of meals/macros- Eating at the right times is important as well as eating the right things... carbs/protein and eliminating fat

I have been running insulin for the last 3-4 weeks, two of those weeks I stacked it with DNP.... DNP reduces insulin sensitivity in fat cells so they work well together.

I use Humilin R and inject IM... I found that the insulin is no longer impacting my blood sugar in less than 2 hours per my glucose monitor. I process insulin very well and general have lower blood sugar those most people naturally with lower and shorter spikes than most people eating similar foods (which is a great benefit overall)

Combined with the DNP over the last 4 weeks, I have lowered my bf by several percent and my weight has stayed virtually unchanged... I have to think the inuslin has had some benefit... also despite my low carb intake (im doing contest prep right now) I have been getting AWESOME pumps in the gym... again, insulin? maybe placebo? but I would DEF say I have gotten results from what Ive been doing and every little bit helps.

edit- let me add my dosage-
I worked up to 8iu PWO only (which is 4 days per week)... I take in approx 45g dextrose (measured on a digital scale), 6g glutamine and 40g protein. 1 hr later I eat 6oz chicken breast with eithe 4 or 6oz red skin potato with approx 1tbs bbq sauce (8g sugar) ... I work out in the evening so my only other meal after that is 40g protein right before bed, which is usually 3-4hours after my IM insulin inject.

yeah insulin gets a bad rap from people who have never used it and just feed into others misgivings
I use after my workouts and sometimes in the mornings,up to 10 iu usually but I cycle the use(2 days on 1 day off and for no more than a month at a time
It makes me very hungry being an ecto that hunger gives me that extra kick to eat eat eat
It helps keep my muscles full and its a great antioxidant as well
