Preparing for Pregnency workout

Okay, I am planning on getting Pregnent soon, and am wondering, wtf should I do? I mean, I am all cool with doing treadmill and at what range should I do it at, should I still lift weights? I am kinda on both extremes, I WANT to lift weights really bad and would love to the whole time BUT I DON'T WANT to lift weights cause I don't want any kind of strain put on the baby, and I don't have a problem not working out for 10 months or so, if it's for the baby, what should I do? :) I mean, I havn't missed a workout in years, and I work my ass off in the gym, as I am sure you all know, any thoughts or suggestions on what I should do? I don't care what my body lookslike, it's not a vain issue, I would be happy being 200lbs and having a healthy baby, any thoughts? :)

You have probably heard my story a hundred times, so I'll keep it short, but I ran and lifted up until the last minute. Around month 7, I stopped doing heavy work where I had to bear down (like squats) and I switched my running to an eliptical. Did HIIT on the eliptical too. I just listened to my body. If I was more tired than usual, I cut it short and didn't push it. If I was hotter than usual that day, I stopped. I didn't HAVE to do it at all, but I sure felt a lot better when I did.

...and congrats! :)

At what point during her pregnacy will Brickgirl have to stop maintaining those fricking amazing ab plates?

And is it possible that a woman can have abs that are so thick and powerful that they can inhibit the required expansion of the abdomenal wall? (always wondered bout that)

I wonder about raising body temp from the cardio. When I was pregnant the doc warned that taking hot baths were bad for the baby. I guess you could just take your temperature during and after cardio sessions to make sure you're ok.

Congrats on your decision! Is this your first child? Will you post up monthly pictures for us? It looks like you're planning this just right to avoid being pregnant for next summer...smart girl! Being pregnant in the summer is not fun!

Here is an inspiring post from the t-mag forum by a lady who did OL throughout both her pregnancies. The original question was from a guy wanting to know if his PL wife should skip a big meet because she found out she was preggers. The rest of the thread of course was a bunch of guys saying a pregnant lady was nuts to do anything other that lie on the couch and fan herself, might hurt the baby.

I am new on the forum and felt compelled voice my
opinion on this matter. I am the mother of 2 children and
a serious weightlifter, although I don't compete (other
than me verses the weight). I know that everyone
handles pregnancy differently, so I don't want to suggest
that what was right for me will be right for your wife. I
talked it over with my OB/GYN and she said to listen to
my body and continue to the activities that I had been
doing and to not start anything new. My workouts
consisted of Olympic lifts, squats and their varitions and
the usual assortment of upper body exercises. I worked
out (lifted) 3 times a week and did some cardio on the
other two weekdays. I did very little on the weekends. I
didn't have any complications and continued to lift
normally. The only modification I had to make was to
gradually decrease the intensity on the lifts and by the
7th month had to do all my Olympic movements from a
hang position or from blocks due to the increasing size of
my belly. I had 2 c-sections and was told to not lift for 2
weeks afterwards and then I could start back up with
lighter lifting for 4 weeks and then resume my normal
routine. I gained a total of 20 lbs with both pregnancy
and after the 2 week lay off was about 8 lbs lighter than
before I got pregnant. I feel like the lifting helped me
have a more comfortable and fit pregnancy and an easier
recovery. I suppose everyone is different, but I don't
want you to think that it is impossible to lift aggressively
when you get pregnant. Talk to your doctor and best of
luck.

Second kid :) Monthly ab shots? sure, why not :)

That would be soooo awesome, BG!

I'm awful with celebrity names, but remember a few yrs. ago when that actress or model was on the cover of a magazine (Cosmo or something) with her beautiful pregnant tummy? I thought that was one of the best magazine covers of all time. To me a pregnant woman's body is amazingly lovely, knowing that a little person is growing inside her...it just blows my mind. I gained 60 lbs when I was pregnant and although I didn't like getting so fat, I still marveled at the changes and would enjoy looking at my big ole belly when I got out of the shower. LOL

I think if you showed your development through your pregnancy it would help some of the women feel less afraid of the changes that they'll go through when they're pregnant.

My Dr. warned against getting too hot while exercising, there were no other limitations. Maybe you can work out at home and crank the AC? Swimming is always good. Good luck and congratulations!

I am pregnant with my 4th right now (EDD 8/3) and I want to repeat what others have already stated... that thoughout pregnancy you have to be especially careful about overheating and overexerting (like when you lift heavy). After the 2nd trimester it gets much more tough. :( That's when your body is feeling pregnant (ie ligaments get looser) and ob/gyns don't recommend doing exercises in a supine position. I can't do a lot of exercises laying on my back that I love doing so it cramps my workout style. I also had to change my mindset to maintain what I have and take it down a lot of notches so I don't injure myself or baby. For example, I used to do cardio like on my treadmill for 30 to 45 minutes and now I can barely stand cycling 15 minutes on my stationary bike.

Also, consider the chance you might have complications. God forbid it happens, but it's happening to me and I consider myself healthy. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my 26th week, but diabetes runs in my family and I've had it with my other 3 kids. Anyways, this really, really cramps my exercise time and diet because I have to test my blood and take insulin shots. My diet has always been the same which is a curiosity to me that I got GD, but being that I am growing a baby :) I can see how it's added stress. It's a major pain...

Well, I hope any of this helps you and good luck!!
