Talk to the Doc, never heard of it!

Ive been on that drug off an on since i was 11. Now im 23. It sucks balls. I switched to self medicating with equipose as it has the same effects on me minus some of the negative side effects. Prednisone is catabolic so make sure you take glutamine and try to get off it as soon as possible. You on it for asthma or crohns or what?

no, actually i have a serious inflamation of my optic nerve in my eye...i have seen many docs over the last few weeks and they call me the mystery man because i have had several tests for all types of things and they cant seem to put a finger on the root of the problem...my vision is affected and i have some blind spots, so for now going off the prednisone is not an option becasue i am going to a very well respected eye hospital so i feel like i should follow the docs orders for now to see if we can get the swelling down from the optic nerve...

thats stuff is nasty...i avoid it if i can

Do NOT let your physician prescribe prednisone if you are a BBer or PLer. It is very catabloic to muscle mass. It also severly impairs the bodies immune system. If they try to put you on this, you may have to advise your AAS usage if appropriate.

prednisone is catabolic. he opposite of anabolic. makes you weak, it eats muscle and increases fat deposition especially around the spare tire and center belly.

the weight is only water weight.

Exatctly what i said. You should def take some glutamine to help prevent the break down of muscle. how high are you on it now?

glutamine is anti-catabolic, but I dont think it would be as useful here (at least not directly) because Glutamine helps prevent your body from releasing cortisol. In this case, the prednisone basically IS exogenous cortisol (cortisone). But glut wouold help prevent additional release so it cant hurt. and it has immune enhancing effects.

better would be compounds that protect muscle tissue from the effects of elevated cortisol - obviously a.a.s. but you would absolutely need to discuss that with your doctor to be sure it wouldnt negatively impact whatever the condition he's treating is.

Like glutamine, alll the other supps that traditionally are suggested to reduce catabolism work upstream to trick the body into releasing less cortisol, so wouldnt really help your case (hmb, bcaa's, phosphatidyl serine, hi-dose vitamin C etc)

i had a few severe allergic reactions

once almot resulted in death

prednizone saved me ....i love that stuff...i keep tabs with me in the car if i start to get a reaction i chew them up

Jon Mate, I can understand where you are coming from It has a remarkable cure rate in many areas but I know people who have nearly died on this stuff after long term use of a few years. It wastes the body away & can cause serious infections which are impossible to treat. Beware, buddy.

That means you were on it for a short time i bet not long term like this guy or me when i was younger...Short term has no sides.

I took pro hormons when i was on them and gained about 5 to 10 pounds of muscle. So taking steroids isent bad, but like you said about teh glutamine steroids also suppress corticosteroids after you lift hard. So once again counter acting but it worked for me and i still think gluatamine cant hurt.

90 ms contin 30mg pills (time released morphine) and over 250 roxy 15's a month and still no pain relief for a *very* messed up leg (that ended up needing surgery) and lower back I had gotten from a wicked car accident. Finally got some pred and it was better than all those heavy duty narcotics!

Since I can get Deca in Greece easily without legal issues, I just use that now. Lubes up the joints nice and good.

But if pred is all you can get and it adds to your quality of life, forget how it makes you look, I'd rather be able to live pain free/without health problems than look like a model! The most I'd ever run it is 5 days though every few months. Of course use as your Dr. prescribes.

All water. Catabolic. Ever see Jerry Lewis when he was taking it.

the reason Glutamine isnt directly useful in the case of someone taking prednisone is that Glutamine reduces the amount of cortisol the body will release in response to stress. Prednisone IS cortisol. Its like giving someone an anti-aromatase and then giving him estrogen. the anti-a is irrelevent to the administered estrogen.

the reason anabolic steroids WOULD be effective with someone taking prednisone is because they block the cortisol receptors in muscle tissue and prevent breakdown. anabolic steroids dont suppress the release of cortisol after a workout, they just block the effects of released cortisol. to continue the analogy above it would be like giving Nolvaldex - tamoxifen citrate - to someone and then dosing them with estrogen. blocks the receptors and the effects.

It may be better to supplement with taurine because of its role in muscle contraction & energy output. Help preserve that role that prednisone degrades. Just a thought, no scientic facts to back this up. Mav?

Prohormones have worked great for me. I've done M1-T and Andro...they helped. Offcourse, no were near as good as 10% of the results i got from Susta or Decca...but every bit helps....I did hear that the sides of prohormones are worse than those of steroids, especially on the liver...

I think Taurine is bad for you if you take too much of it. Not sure why, but I remember reading that somewhere.

Prednisone's catabolic nature is only a single mild to moderate side effect of many, many more horrible ones that can often come with long-term use. So yes, lots of people do have problems with the drug.

When you say you are seeing doctors, I hope you mean specialists. Taking a trip to a place like the Mayo Clinic might be of benefit, also.

Most importantly, never listen to anyone on the internet over your doctor. They're the professionals, not anonymous internet users.

thanks for all the info bro...appreciate it

Overall man just hang in there and it will be over soon enough. Hopefully this will be a one time thing. Keep working hard in teh gym and if you use steroids while on it more power to you!

keep your protein intake up, dont work too hard in the gym (counterintuitive as that mite seem), munch on BCAA's during the day between meals, and look into Cissus supplements which suppossedly block cortisol receptors like a.a.s. would (thats new product hype so take it with a grain of salt and do the due dilligence! )

good luck!
