powerlifting suppliments

I don't waste my money on supplements any more. Other than a multivitamin and protien powder The rest of that stuff is crap for what you pay for it. Save your money. The best thing you can do is eat good and eat a lot.

Creatine

I believe that it's a waste. It makes you bigger, from water weight, and then when you stop you shrink down again. It will make you a little stronger while using it because of improved leverage in the muscle, but when you stop you lose it. And like Brian said, it made me cramp horribly.

Louie Simmons says not to take it.

Creatine is a proven supplement. It will make you stronger. (At least with 70-80% of the population)

I don't use any supplements, mainly due to lack of money.

If I have any cheap creatine laying around...I will use it the last 2-3 weeks before a contest. What can it hurt?

Gingivitis? Your gums?

Are you serious?! Or did your last encounter with ginvitis coincide with taking creatine?

-Zulu

If you are gonna take creatine then make sure NOT to take it along with fat or fiber because it won't absorb well. Creatine works best on an empty stomach .

i have done 3 rounds of creatine.....all about 8 weeks....everytime i started about 3 weeks in my gums would ache and bleed. i went to a dentist and there was no signs of anything else causing the gums bleeding.

i have since read a studie about side effects of creatine.....and guess what...some people get bleeding gums.

the cramps are worse though...some times i couldnt walk.
i couldnt get my water balance right...and regardless of my water intake i would get cramps and chapped lips

i think im a freak.

who needs the shit anyway?

"who needs the shit anyway?

WHo needs a nice bench shirt? Who NEEDS a lot of quality food?

Nobody needs creatine, but it's an effective supplement for 80% of people.

I have used it but couldn't ever really tell if it helped or not. I never noticed any negative side effects from it though. I still continue to use it, may be a waste but oh well. I have heard from Many people that it really helped them!!!

I rather buy a bench shirt for $165 that I know will make me a better bencher than buy all the creatine and other stuff for the same $165. That $165 is about what Inzer costs for a double denim velcro radical.

I've personally had the experience of just bloating with creatine since all it is, is extra water and not giving me any strength gains. I mean I honestly can't talk I have some here at home but I don't use it it's just there and I even bought whats suppose to be the BEST kind out there efervescent. If your gonna buy this stuff creatine is creatine either way it's gonna do the same thing for you no matter what brand, and what it does is shit. And if 80% it really does work for them I think from the guys that posted here there's more negative than positive about it.

Cubanito, not all creatines are the same. Effervescents are infact a waste as they are the waste product of creatine--creatinine. Severe nuance.

And creatine is not just water, again it is a very effective supplement. There is sufficient empirical evidence of this.

Well heres the thing if you think it works for you then fine you take it but as of me takin it I think it's shit and I prefer to buy some protein shakes and make my lil weight gainer(the one I posted on another thread, it's some good shit).

hmmmm.... i can think of something that works that costs about as much as some of the high-priced creatine concoctions i have seen floating around.

in all seriousness, i personally find creatine a waste of time as i do all other supplements besides protein. when i was younger, i tried everything, but at least i was only stupid enough to try it two or three times before realizing it was a scam.

just my $0.02.

But a bench shirt will not help make you stronger. If creatine works for you, it will.

I've tried creatine a couple of times and not really noticed anthing, but maybe mine was the cheap stuff. I've heard that about 60% to 70% of the people benifit and for whatever reason the rest don't.

Creatine can work, but it is an individual thing. Other factors need to be on line for it to do so, such as proper micronutrient intake (get your minerals). I get decent results from creatine, but one thing to remember is that it assists in providing energy for the atp -> cpk cycle, and this is at least a six second process in untrained lifters, and can be up to ten seconds. Lifts or sets that take longer than this will not really be affected by creatine supplementation, so there is no point in taking it the last week before a meet, unless you seriously need the extra water weight.

Creatine is very cheap, if you shop around. I get mine from www.kilosports.com

Also, as I mentioned previously, proper micronutrient intake is a must, and it is very difficult to get all of your vitamins and minerals from food any more, with all of the nutrients that are lost in shipping, processing, etc. A good mulit-vitamin can go a long way.

Glutamine can help with recovery, and it is not that expensive.

These are the only ones I use, and I frequently wind up with free stuff to try "Hey coach, what do you think of this?" or some distributor trying to get me to buy something for my athletes. Most supplements are crap.

An eca stack can help with fat burning, as well as an NYC stack, and both are very cheaply made. You can get ephedrine very cheap, add a caffeine tablet, and a baby aspirin, and you are all set.

I have found very few other things worth purchasing.

If you are a competitive powerlifter...buy a belt, suit, knee wraps, wrist wraps, and a shirt. Get a pair of Chucks too (they cost about the same as some good creatine). After you have all of this gear and are ready to compete...throw in some creatine if you want.
