police routine....

i am 19 years old, and preparing to become a police officer once i finish college. i won't graduate for atleast another 2 years, but i want to be fully prepared. i talked to an officer that is a family friend and she said that strength is a big factor in the 20week academy. does anyone have a diet/routine that i could start that would suit this description? i guess i am really clueless on what i should shoot for, but am just looking for some insight. thanks alot.

Well, I'm not a cop. But strength is a precursor to most athletic traits, as far as I know. I'd assume you'd also need some endurance and strength-endurance and who knows what else. Long story short, check out the training sticky above. Read about Mark Rippetoe's 3x5 program and do it. And you probably oughta' check out www.crossfit.com. They're a bunch of dicks by and large but their program has some good elements and if you follow it, you'll probably get injured, but if you don't, you'll get in good shape.

Hey swaptrex.

I will tell you this. Get into some type of Grappling training some groundfighting stuff and a lot of cardio. You will need to concentrate on your upper body strength as it relates to overcoming resistance but your training also needs to include a lot of Trunk Flexion training. The hours in a patrol car will destroy your lower back unless you take some preemtive steps. There is more to discuss and warn about than I can go into here but you will do well to take your fitness very seriously if you are considering a law enforcment career.

the requirements are (usually) run 1.5 miles in under 30 mins, benchpress 80-90% ox ur body weight.

if u pass that, along with the written test, you go to the academy.

work on the running if u suck at it, im sure u can do the bench.
