Please help a skinny newbie kid out !

Hi. This is my story:

I am a little taller than 5'9, and I only wiegh around 130. I am very skinny. I have lifter before, and saw some considerable size improvement, but no weight gain. I have lost all of that as I didnt lift seriously for a while. I took a weight lifting class at my college (dont laugh), and know quite a bit about it (but I would like to know more).

I am your typical skinny kid with high metabolism. I am 19 years old and I am trying to gain the weight (around 20 pounds...is this realistic?). I recently bought some GNC weight gainer and it says that one serving is 400g (or 3 humongous scoops of powder) mixed with 24 oz of milk. I want to know how many times I am supposed to drink this 400mg serving. I would also like to know if this stuff actually works and if there are any pointers you can give me.

I am completely lost as to what I should do and have no idea were to start.
 
Just eat a lot. The weight gainer will help, but your diet is most important.

EAT.....EAT......EAT. That is pretty much what everyone here will tell you.

Ok, I weighed about the same a few yrs ago when I started out and gained weight slowly by eating normal...But now I have realized that you really have to EAT ALOT!!!!!! THEN EAT AGIAN!!! Ok, your prob saying "you eat like a pig all the time".. right? well if you say you do, I say you cant be cause its not working is it?...So, try to eat like at least 6-8 meals per day..Drink that shake maybe 2-3 times per day, and of course a good shake post-workout....
Its best to eat clean foods like chicken fish and tuna, but in your case i would definately say LEAN RED MEAT!!!! Try to eat as much of this as possible... at least a few servings per day....Potatoes, pasta, oatmeal, milk if you can digest it (shakes too), healthy fats(flax, nat. PB) vegtables...etc....Eat every 2 hours or so and drink lots of water (about 1 gal/day)....

i was in the same boat as you about 2 years ago. 5'8 125 pounds….

What got me started was reading this site, and also the Max-Ot program by AST. You can read this program for free at www.ast-ss.com , look for the MAX-OT link on the right hand side.

Read through it and start that program. It will help a lot. To this day I still use max-ot style splits and theories.

Eat a lot! Try to eat every 2 hours starting out very early in the morning. Lots of carbs and protein.
 
theres no secret to packing on the beef... its a case of eating everything you can get your hands on.. focus on high quality protein and carbs... and hit the gym like a man posessed.
If you are doing any cardio vascular exercise then you are taking two steps forward then 1 step back - so dont do anything like that (ideally)

Most skinny blokes i know can work out, but they cant eat for shit - they think 2 macdonalds meals as their only meals of the day are sufficient... i can put on more muscle in a fortnight than they can in 6 months.

So make sure you are eating once every 2-3 hours, and over 3000 calories a day....

The only supplements you need are a good protein powder to take after training and around the day... and some creatine to have after training would be good.

Apart from that its pretty simple really... Its all about DIET, REST and TRAINING in order of importance (diet first) - if you dont have all of those covered 100%, you'll be a skinny guy forever mate

I did a search on the site on "newbie" and a few other words, and this is basically the same info I came up with. I have a question though, will real fattyfoods such as junk food not help or are they harmful? My body fat is practically nonexistant (i think its somewhere between 2% and 6%).

And are those 400 mg 3 scope shakes 1 serving! That is humongous! How many times do I need to take the weight gainer a day?

Lastly, I saw that site the skinnyguy.net, is that legit?

Ideally you should only use the powder after workout.... But if your not getting your total calories (around 3000) then youll have to add the shakes in at least 1-3 per day....

What I would do right now is go to a website like www.fitday.com and enter EVERYTHING that you ate yesterday, and today... and get totals (cals, prot, carbs, fat) and a breakdown of your overall total % of calories from these nutrients... Then you can see EXACTLY what you need to add or change... Do that then post the results for better suggestions.... :fro:
