Playstation 2 or XBOX>??? help me decide!!

well i'm craving some madden 2003 and or college football 2003, so i decided to go buy one

i tend to play sports games most, but will play stuff like gta3, vice city, medal of honor, that new navy seals game, and max payne

the xbox looks fine and dandy, but no gta3/vice city.


whats a dude to do?
 
ps2.

if you somehow get sick of it, then perhaps xbox.

games are the decision maker. games are fun. games are what you play. ps2 has the games.
 
get both maybe?

that's what I'm gonna being doing.

the XBox will let you go out to a VGA monitor at a higher rez - the PS2 will let you go out to a VGA monitor, but at the same crappy res that you have on a tv.

the games that are on both systems are the best way to compare - in that case, you have to see them both (maybe rent them and try them out) - decide which controller you prefer and what looks better.

the ones that are only on one system are a no brainer.

Im partial to the ps2 but had xbox for a few months(borrowed)..

PS2 is worth it just for GTA:Vice City and Madden 2003 online play.

Network play:
PS2 requires you buy a network adapter, then there are no fees to play online, you will use your isp(cable,dsl, or dialup).

XBOX requires a subscription to an online service(not available yet)
 
I recently faced the same decision and went with the xbox.

MS Live is running now so online play is abundant.
MS had purchased some development heavyweights and has a boatload of great nerw and upcoming games.

There's a lot of crossover betwee the 2 and I think it essentially comes down to 2 games... GTA vs HALO.

Gta is cool, but solo only. I also find the novelty of fucking ho's and punching strangers to wear off pretty fast. Halo has an awsome solo game, but is even better on multiplayer. Multiplayer extends the life of a game tenfold if you ask me. Halo is the best video game I have ever played.

I went for xbox, but they are both good systems and you will like either one.


Actually Halo is so good that it can be a pain in the ass cuz no other games measure up to it. Thats the prob Im having now.

But, the best thing for you to do is rent each game console seperately and multiple games over a weekend for from Blockbuster and decide for yourself. I watch a lot of movies and it was my understanding that Xbox was higher quality for those purposes. Is that right? Anyone know for sure? Thought I read Xbox has progressive scan and ps2 didn't. But, I'm usually full of shit anyway. Anyone?
 
Think longer term, get xbox. It has HALO, which there is no comparable game, I just got MECHAssault and it is a solid game itself. I played GTAvice city on my ps2 (I have ps2 and xbox) and the graphics looked topped out, dont think the ps2 can do much more with that TV style graphics. PS2 has the games right now, but XBOX will have all the games on a better box shortly. Or you could always wait for PS3 LOL
 
superdave - u like Mech? The idea is cool, the graphics are cool, but I found the game to be too much of a 'button-masher'. Not a lot of strategy just press fire as fast as you can.

My bro picked up Unreal Championship today, so I'll let y'all know what I think of it tomorrow or something.

There is strategy, albeit moderate and depends on your mech or environment. Youre right though, there is a lot of push and pound to it. I was expecting totally customizable mechs like the old mechwarrior computer game, but the mechs they give you are good and cover all the bases. I guess Im still getting used to the awesome graphics and sounds of the xbox in general, so a lot of games will seem great to me LOL. Mech would be perfect if it had arenas and such to just battle it out with the computer. Of course it has live capabilities so I will be looking forward to that. I loved those old mech games from the pc, so I knew I would like this game.

the more i look at it the only reason to get a ps2 really is gta3 and vice city
 
that game is the sole reason I'm getting a PS2.
Vice City helps too.

Dead to Rights looks cool - but since it is also on the XBox, I'll likely get the XBox version.

all that said... I gotta get the boxes first.

I'm likely moving this summer and I'm not really sure that I want to buy more stuff right now - just more to ship which means more to spend.
 
Max Payne, Dead to Rights, and Hunter The Reckoning are all great games. Halo, however, is one of the greatest games ever produced. It truly is unbelievable.

I hear everyone jacking off about halo all the time, but I don't get what is so hot about it.

I don't really get into the Quake kinds of games - I much prefer the ones where you are in a world and you can move around in that world and fuck shit up.
I tried that here at work and got in trouble.

that said, I hate time based shit. like how you need to be in this one part of the city, kill this one dude, fuck a hooker, and then that opens a door on the other side of the city and you need to race over there in some amount of time to get through the door, or otherwise you are raped by a gang of bikers.
that is too much like my day to day life.
I need a change.
 
It is like Quake, but far more realisitc - less cartoony, more sophisticated. Its not just 'run and gun'.

Really though I love it because of the multiplayer and online play. Battling AI is fun, but nothing compared to taking on other people.

Actually I'm like you, but with GTA. I find that initially its all shits n' giggles to fuck a ho then punch her to get your money back, but it gets tired pretty quick.
 
I HAVE AN XBOX. I'M THINKING OF GETTING A PS2 FOR A COUPLE OF GAMES LIKE VICE CITY AND SOCOM. HOWEVER, IF I HAD TO CHOOSE ONE, I WOULD GO WITH THE XBOX.

If you want the big selected of games the it's no contest, PS2. If having the best selection of games doesn't matter, and having the best possible graphics does get X-Box. Personally for me I chose PS2 but I may get an X-box by Christmas. Nearly every game on both systems is better on X-box. But if you look at some of the new PS2 games, the X-box stuff doesn't really look that much better to me.

MS Live detects modded boxes and will not allow you to play.
 
Xbox with out a dought, If you guys like halo(online) you should play Ghost recon.

Xbox live is fun as hell(you gotta have broadband though) theres nothing like playing on a team based game(any game) and being able to talk to your teamates the whole time.

I agree about Mech assault being a button masher, it needs bigger maps to offer more strategy.

The xbox also will have downloadable levels and shit too.

LOL!!!! that guys a moron... microsoft will not be going out of business any time soon. I don't know why he would be saying something so stupid, but my guess is he's biased towards the cube or ps2 or just just terribly misinformed.

I remember last year a saleman was telling me not to get an XBOX because mircosoft is going ot come out with a super XBOX soon. what the fuck
 
Checkout Time Splitters 2 for PS2 I think it is pretty bad ass. Kind of a cross between the multiplay of 007 for N64 and Halo.

Well don't expect microsoft to be going out of business but that doesn't mean they won't get out of the videogame console business. Last time I checked Sega was still in business but out of the videogame console business. History has shown things aren't looking the great for a company when they goes from not giving games with their system and then giving 2 games with the system at no extra charge. The systems that are doing well with plenty of life ahead of them never give you shit for free. Microsoft will probably give it a go with a 2nd X-box and if that doesn't go as plan just scrap their console aspirations.
 
I have both. Actually all three, I love games but it comes down to this. Is online play important and do you have broadband? It's true PS2 has amazing games: GT3, GTA3 or VC, DMC etc. but so does the Box: Splinter Cell, Halo, Rallisport. This is the thing though, Xbox Live is amazing. You can make your own football, basketball, hockey league or you can play Unreal, Mech, and Ghost Recon to death. That's the beauty of online play. If you're not interested in that in the slighest, I'd say PS2 just for the library but I think online console play is the next big thing.
