PL Bench Q - Leg drive

JOKER47

Elite Mentor
I've seen Spatts's video's of her competitin lifts, and seen a few pro's benching on TV or in pics.

How do you (Spatts) or they get any leg drive when there is nothing touching the ground but their tippy-toes?

The only way I can get decent leg drive is to place my feet on a couple cinder blocks when benching. I doubt this would be legal in a comp, but if I take the blocks away, I might as well have my feet on the bench altogether for all the drive I can get.

FWIW, when I do have my feet on blocks, my ass always stays in contact with the bench, and I don't think, but don't really know, if my bench is higher than one used in a comp. But still, how the hell do you get good leg drive off your toes?

Thanks,
Joker

For benching? Really? I've never seen that. I wouldn't have thought that was legal. That makes me feel better if it is.:)

Still wonder how some of the elite lifters get leg drive from their toes, though.

Joker, I'm not sure what video you saw, but my entire foot is firmly planted with feet out in front of me and wide so I can drive back, and my arse always stays on the bench too.

Also, I stack mats 3 high for training, because our bench at home is higher than regulation, and if the comp bench is too high for leg drive they allow me to put down some plates for my feet (no cinder blocks :) ).

I'll look at the video again. Maybe I just wasn't looking close enough.

I feel better knowing that they at least allow something under the feet.:)

Thanks,
Joker
