Pic's of 1980 Olympia, anyone?....

I was wondering if anyone had any pics, or links to pics from that controversial (hey don't they all seem that way these days?!) contest. I just read True Myths: The Life and Times of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold had said that the Conan movie was coming up, and he needed to get in shape for it. The Olympia was three months away, so Joe and Franco convinced him to do it. So, if Arnie is telling the truth, then he got in shape awfully quick. He had lost a lot of size since 75. From the pics in his 'Bible of Bodybuilding' he doesn't look that impressive. Not compared to Pumping Iron days. I searched the web, but surprise, surprise, I can't seem to find any pics from that Olympia! I would just like to see if he was in bad shape as Mentzer, and others claimed he was (there are maybe 3 pics of him from that show in the encyclopedia, so not much to go by). He said in the book that he was booed off stage when he won, and people threw the armrest from chairs at him! YIKES! And then he supposedly told someone "In a year of two, people will forget all about this, and I will still have won the Olympia 7 times"

I love Arnold. I think he is a smart 'business man' in all aspects (bodybuilding, actor, real estate, etc), so I'm not hating. It's just all this talk about this years Olympia, and comparisions of Jay and Ronnie, It got me thinking about the 80 O. So, anyone got any pics or links? :D

C3 this is mostly the true version of what happened. A friend of mine made the Conan movie. He said a couple months before the Olympia Arnold had seen that Conan was going to be his big break into major stardom and decided to enter the Olympia to help promote the film. (It is much better for Conan to be the current top bodybuilder in the wolrd.) At that time Arnold hadn't just for a year or two. My friend said it was AMAZING to watch him. He had never seen the effects of juice before. He said, "Every day... every day... he had more and more muscle." He said it was a miraculous transformation. This was also back before guys really ever paid much attention to "cutting cycles." He said Arnold just piled in the food... great mounds of ice cream... chickens... whatever. My friend claimed that Arnold went up 40 lbs in the months before the show. He isn't a bodybuilder... so I am not sure how accurate he is at judging weight... but if you rerent CONAN... you can see the change in Arnold in the different scenes.

There are 2 videos available: one "official" called the comeback or total rebuild and another about the 80 show itself that you can buy at GMV production.

Anyone has them?

Sofa, I know what you are talking about. I was just watching the Conan dvd the other day, and in the start of the movie, he looks like a big slab of muscle, and pale. Yet towards the end, he is more 'defined' and 'cut', with a deep tan. As if he was preparing for a contest, or just got done with one. In that book about Arnold, he said that he was losing weight rapidly, but he had to train harder, so he just didn't become fat, but rather stayed somewhat muscular. So, I guess he really did use the Olympia to get into quick shape, promote the movie, etc, etc. It's sorta sad, how it 'supposedly' went down. It's always sad to see one time greats, come back for one last time, and ruin the 'myth' of it all....

Interesting. All the times I've watched the movie I never noticed this, but I hadn't looked for it either.
