BERLIN - A man nearly died from alcohol poisoning after quaffing a liter (two pints) of vodka at an airport security check instead of handing it over to comply with new carry-on rules, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the Nuremberg airport on Tuesday, where the 64-year-old man was switching planes on his way home to Dresden from a holiday in Egypt.

New airport rules prohibit passengers from carrying larger quantities of liquid onto planes, and he was told at a security check he would have to either throw out the bottle of vodka or pay a fee to have his carry-on bag checked as cargo.

Instead, he chugged the bottle down — and was quickly unable to stand or otherwise function, police said.

A doctor called to the scene determined he had possibly life-threatening alcohol poisoning, and he was sent to a Nuremberg clinic for treatment.

The man, whose name was not released, is expected to be able to complete his journey home in a few days.

a liter is like 20 shots. 8oz is only like 5 shots, but that'll hit you fucking hard if you take it at once

1/5th is only 3/4th of a liter. Worst drinking episode i had was over 20 tequila shots in under 2 hrs at an around the world party i went to. It was at the first room you walk into, and i rolled up late so i took a few to start catching up. I kept running into people i knew, and everytime i tried to leave mexico somebody would make me go back in and take some shots with them. I was an absolutely disgusting mess, immoblized on my friend's bed and vomiting off the side. It's also the only time i've ever pissed myself from drinking. The weirdest part was that my ex-gf took care of me, and we somehow got back together during the episode even though i dont really remember anything

around the world party! holy shit those bring back memories at a frat house!!!!

i bet you had a hang over till 5 pm the next day?

my freshman year in college were making rum and cokes. I had no idea what 151 was. I drank in HS, but beer and vodka was about it. So I had maybe 8 rum and cokes (151s) and I had a hang over till 5pm the next day. I was puking so bad in the dorms the RA came to my room and heard me and wanted to take me the hospital but I had 3 drinking tickets in 6 months so I would have been kicked out so I toughed it out. my roommate thought I was going to die so his scared ass bitch left the room to sleep with his gf at another dorm. he said he didnt want to see someone die...

asshat

a standard shot is 30ml in australia. a litre is 1000ml. so its 30 shots in this country

the same thing happened when i went on my latest vacation - i had 2 pub sized bottles of liquor with me and because of this 911 bullshit, they wouldnt let me take it on the plane and said i should throw it away. so i said to the security lady "look im not dumping this - you should take it home and have it, its a sin to throw it away" and gave them to her. she looked at me and just gave them back.

...arent guilt trips grand lol

.

actually that is not entirely true.

Most airports now will not allow any liquids taken on board.

I saw one mother have to drink some of her own breast milk that was in a bottle for her baby in front of the entire queue at Heathrow last week.

still, the old guy had balls to drink it like that

wtf she couldn't just throw it away? or give some to the baby if she was trying to prove it wasnt a chemical agent
