Phaded...and everyone with home office jobs

swole

Well-known member
I'm currently being considered for a home office job (meetings and presentations within CT would be my only out of home work time) and was wondering how you guys and gals liked working out of your home.

Do you actually wake up at the same time everyday and sit in your office? Does not getting out of the house too often drive you nuts? Is it more of a communication (internet, phone contacts) or sign onto some type of server job?

Tell me about it.

For the record I love my job as a processing engineer at a research & development plant at Unilever...but this job I applied for was shits and giggles...basically i'll be the CT manager of operations for a nationwide kid's sports academy. I'd be coordinating camp dates, assigning coaches and directors to camps, employing staff, and selling our program to town and city rec departments amongst other things.

I think my potential to move up the ladder is greater at my current job since R&D plants are relatively small compared to other corporate buildings.

This other sports camp company has been growing steadily over a few years and might offer me a higher position once I show them I can handle the state of CT.

Money? About the same to start.
Fun? I love the people I work with, but stay at home is nice
Longterm? About the same, imo

To be honest tt would take a lot for me to accept this position.

Opinions?

Working from home takes ALOT of discipline. I get up at the same time everyday. I start work at the same time everyday. I don't do household errands during normal working hours.

However, I am self employed and doing fire sprinkler system design work. It is something that can be done remotely without too much difficultly.

It is tough not getting out of the house regularly. When things get real busy, I have gone as long as 7-10 days without leaving the house. You go stircrazy after awhile.

Also, you can never "leave the work at the office." It is always there for you to do.

However, having the opportunity to be at home with my daughter as she is growing makes it all worth while. My wife is a SAHM and takes care of our daughter during the day. We treat it like I am not at home, but still get to hear all of the daily stuff going on and know I am not far away should anything happen.
