This is beyond sad…

Most crematory’s maximum weight allowance for a body is 600 pounds. There are retorts (cremation chamber) because of the growing size of American's that can do more but they are of course VERY expensive so only a few companies have them. Plus as you can imagine it takes a VERY long time to do a person this large and can be VERY difficult for many factors….

Now Imagine this conversation..

Women calls funeral home….

“excuse me I would like to know the cost of a just a simple cremation, without services or embalming.”

Funeral director…

“sure that is… X amount of dollars etc…..

So the lady decides she likes the price, and the funeral director and she goes with this funeral home….

Funeral Director gets all the necessary information, and tells the lady to call the place of death and let them know which mortuary that you have chosen.

SIMPLE right!!

Funeral Director call place of death gets all the information and the nurse starts giving the information. Gets to the estimated weight and nurse says… “umm… well somewhere between 600-700 pounds.” Like its nothing….. NO big deal right….. WTF 5 years ago that would have been the first thing out of the person’s mouth… Because it WAS so uncommon but now a days in America that is a normal thing. What is it like 75% of American’s are obese… They have to build bigger seats, bathrooms and NOW EVEN bigger crematories and coffins for goodness sakes….

I bet when they first designed those retorts they NEVER thought it would be possible for anyone to be over 300 pounds. But now it’s the norm and no one cares….

So anyways here the funeral director now has to have a debate with the nurse about the actual weight because if its under 650 we MIGHT be able to fit the person in.. But any bigger and we can’t.

So the nurse hangs up the phone and gets a bunch of nurses to go into the room with her… They stand there and try to estimate the dead persons weight because no one wants try to move the person to weight it…

Well they decide that the person is probably over 650….
The Nurse calls back the funeral home and tell them the weight…

Now what…. the funeral director now has to call back this upset family member and try to explain to them in the nicest terms possible that there loved one is too fat to fit in the crematory chamber…

My sister is a physical therapist and had a patient that was 5'3" and weighed over 500 pounds. The lady seriously couldn't even reach back to wipe her own ass. Her son had been taking care of her and had been doing the ass wiping for her. She gave my sister fits because she was so uncooperative with her own therapy and just acted like she didn't give a damn. She also had been seriously abused physically and sexually as a child and had severe mental problems as an adult.

Ive had to examine huge cardiac patients b/c they just gave up on their health and were in heart failure or had myocardial infarctions. Its sad at that point, they literally cant do anything more about it b/c of they damaged their heart by that point.

The worst story I have about an obese woman was my colleague Arnold had to examine a hugely obese woman in the ER and she was so obese she couldnt lay back b/c of her breathing so she was sitting up with a huge apron of fat over her legs. He had to perform a deepvein thrombosis study on her. Thats where we check to see if there are blood clots in the great veins of the legs that can break off, hit the lungs and kill a person, called a pulmonary embolus.
So there he was, he had to use ultrasound to reach up into the groin where to the origin of the femoral vein connects with the iliac. He had his whole arm into the fat with only a glove on, up to his elbow, using the ultrasound to 'see' the veins. He pulled his arm out and it was covered in blood, he said "umm, do you know youre bleeding down there?" She said: "Oh yeah, I menstruating.
Arrgg, Arnie baby was so pissed off at that.

My husband got DVT on our honeymoon -- survived 10 days & a plane ride home B4 going to the hospital. Was in there for 14 days. Scary stuff.

Naw, work in medicine you see it all, nothing phases me anymore, its all biological function and material, its not disturbing after a lil while. That did make me snicker though and everytime I think about him and picture his face and his reaction I cant help but get a big grin on my face. I see my fair share of interesting things during my job too.. but come on the lady is on her rag and she doesn't even have the respect to tell the doctor before he goes fishing around down there... that is FUCKING NASTY!!! how could a women do that... just goes to show you how some people dont give a FUCK about themselves.. that is DISGUSTING..

I was born in 82 so I haven't seen that movie..
