People in Georgia are officially the dumbest in the US

You're being too black and white. It was the day after the anniversary of the darkest day in America since the Civil War.
So three guys come in and make a joke about another terrorist attack. If I heard someone doing that, I might - just might - ask them what they think is so fuckin funny about it.
I might get a little bit upset...being from NY and prior military and all that - I might just ask them what the fuck is going on. This woman did something else.
I don't think she was dumb at all. She isn't trained to recognize legit vs. false threats. The law enforcement people are the ones that deserve some (and only some) criticism, not this person..
Did these students lack the foresight to realize the sensitivty of the American public? were they really as stupid as to think no one's curiosity would be piqued by mention of terrorist attacks, especially by Middle eastern looking people?
I understand and appreciate your points about rights violations - I am generally a libertarian - and you could make the slippery slope argument too.....but let's face it, the students were the biggest idiots in this mess.
18 hours of detention is stupid, but predictable in this climate. Were those students that stupid?

If they really did say something, then a few questions by the police would have been enough.
What about the bomb materials in their car. Why would the FBI release such information?

it is a little bit hard to believe that med students would do something as idiotic as what was reported. Nevertheless it was harder to believe that middle class, educated Saudis would fly planes into buildings. The stupidity of people should not be underestimated.
Now as to the info from teh FBI - they released that info to try and raise public opinion of this agency. The FBI is most accurately nicknamed the "Federal Bureau of Incompetence" and is looking high and low for a public opinion victory. The FBI sucks.
The President or AG should mandate a dramatic reorganization of all federal Law enforcement. Stories of inter-agency rivalry (to the point of withholding info from one another) have emerged and are truly a shame.
Anyway - yeah, this was handled improperly. The law enforcement professionals should be reprimanded, and a formal apology issues to the three students.
Lessons should be learned all around.
