Passport at Mexico Border???

Have they started the passport deal at the Mexico border yet? Been my experience to just walk across both ways, only to show drivers license coming back through customs. Do you have to have a passport to walk accross?

Starting Dec. 31, a passport will be required of all American citizens or visitors entering the U.S. via air and sea travel from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

Then, on Dec. 31, 2007, the requirement will be extended to land border crossings.

dont bring shit back....
And whatever you do don't bring a firearm or ammo. A guy I know got caught with a gun in Mexico. He was in a Mexican jail for almost a year. He'd still be there if his American GF didn't fuck some of the Federales in exchange for letting him go. It's normally like a 7 yr sentence. Mexican Jails are nasty. No bathrooms-you shit in a hole in the ground and you somehow need to find your own toilet paper. No regular food or water, tons of disease like hepatitis, e-coli etc. No bien.

Actually is just a 6 month jail sentence that can be commuted for a fine, and if the firearm is not grater caliber than a 380, just an administrative fine, (any rifles, or caliber for exclusive use of the mexican armed forces .40,.45,9mm and automatic rifles) that's punishable with 1-3 years.

As for your question about passport not yet but bring your birthcertificate and a valid form of ID, if you get a cross and bring none the wost is sitting in the inmmigration office while they request your info......

Yeah, one of my friends got arrested in Mexico, and they made him get some money brought to him from a friend in California. They sent him out of there in his shorts. They kept his shirt, cellphone, shoes! They also kept what money that was in his wallet.

Corruption still runs deep and turist are easy targets since they get in to mexico to get drunk and buy prescription meds.......

You should always have passport and license when going into another country..even birth certificate.

But as long as you stay in tourist areas you will be fine.. Once you go outside that area, be prepared to be fucked with by the policia. Keep at least $100 in your sock. They are corrupt, and will leave you with nothing..

You're exactly right.

In addition to having some extra money, I always caution white Americans to be very nice to the police. DO NOT adopt that smart ass "what do I need to fix this situation" attitude with them, especially the Federales. If you do they'll kick your ass, take ALL your money and maybe still arrest you.

The Customs guys must be pissed about something. I went across today and waited for about 30 minutes and there were only 20 people in line. They were searching all bags, purses, etc. Also checking all ID's, and entering data into their computers. Worst hassle I've ever had. I'm guessing it's due to either the protest scheduled for Monday or the new Mexican drug laws.
