Pain Pills and Testosterone

I read a thread in the past about Pain Pills having a negative effect on testosterone levels. Can anyone please comment or show reports on the validity of this article. I am talking about substances such as vicodin, lortab, et.

not sure why it would effect test levels seems they would work totally different.

since painpills block the receptors telling you your in pain.

now i do know that if your lifting and your on pain pills you have a GREATLY INCREASED chance of seriously injuring yourself.

I was on norco for a year and a half, it definately lowers your test level. I'll never find the article again but there is a medical study out there that proves it, one of the recommendations was HRT for chronic pain patients (of breeding age ayway).

I have been told by some of the vets on here that advil or a generic version of ibuprofen over 400 milligrams does affect your protein synthesis, but I do not have any links as to how it does so. As far as pain meds messing with your natural test, I have not read or heard anything like that.

shouldn't have any major effect as long as you are not abusing them.

Liver would be the first thing to be effected seriously.

Take with caution as Vicodin or any generics (lortab,norco,hydrocodone apap) have acetametaphin in them which is pretty tough on the liver when taken in high doses. Also any opiate based pain pain WILL lower your naturally test numbers. Take it from somebody who has been there, I was a heavy Lortab abuser a few years back taking up to 60mg a day before I got off them........

codein is an opiate.
Be careful bro, withdrawl is a bitch, trust me, i went through it on dillaudid.
Also, if you have to use it, use it as the opiate alone or with a NSAID other than acetaminophen.

jockerswild is absolutely correct. Opiates in general DO decreased testosterone levels. In my case I was put on HRT for the rest of my life. My case is extreme, and in most cases, if the person doesn't abuse opiates or have to take the medication for medical reasons for long periods of time, like myself, you have nothing to worry about.

get off the pain pills now before you get addicted. That addiction is hell to kick, take it from me i have 6 months clean.
