I once got in a fight, well it really wasn't even a fight, it happened kind of like that video. The guy punched me on the right side of the neck and I crumbled to the ground, end of fight. I don't think he meant to hit me on the neck though.

well i'd say that it has to do with the flow of blood to the brain. a hit to that area will stop the flow, and hence a partial knock-out. the same thing happens in round house kicks in muay thai.

the shot he used worked, but i wouldn't try it at home...

definetly a very lucky shot, im sure the guy knew exactly where to hit but I still think the result is lucky, I have gotten drilled in the neck,jaw and back of the head and they couldnt get me to the ground.

That looked more like and open handed ear slap than a neck hit. The ear slap is supposed to really mess up your balance and shit from what I hear.
