OXYCOTIN.....America's Newest Drug....

RyanH

New member
Oxycotin, a narcotic painkiller, made the cover of the New York Times Magazine Today. The drug supposedly takes all of "your troubles away" and gives you a high like nothing else. (Of course, we know, that it doesn't really take your troubles away.)

Apparently, the drug is making a wave throughout even smaller communities in the U.S.A., and is difficult to control since it is a prescription drug. The drug is also very addictive and the writer of the article states "Oxycotin operates like a Trojan horse, doing the most damage when it enters a community of people who don't think of themselves as serious drug users."

Have you tried Oxycotin? If so, what has been your experience?

There is a doctor in FL (I forget his name) that is going to trial for overdosing his patient on "Oxycontin" (spelled with a 'n'). If he is convicted, he will receive life in prison or the death penalty.

I had never used this stuff, but it is VERY easy to OD on. Most people that just use it as a recreational drug crush it up and snort it or they crush it up, mix it with water, and inject it. Either way is highly dangerous.

One minute you are high as a kite...the next minute you can be dead. This is not stuff to play around with at all....it's very dangerous.

Ryan,

From what I understand it is prescribed as OC-4000, and is used for pain relief in cancer patients. In other words, it is some strong shit.

I have never used it but I dated a girl who was addicted to it....she would take it orally at times but also would occasionally snort it.....she had a propensity for snorting things.

Anyway - when she was on it, she was pretty numb, easygoing, but not really present in reality. As such, meaningful conversation was rare when this occured.

Contrast this with her cocaine use which caused her to bounce off of walls initially, stay up all night, and then (the next morning) be a miserable bitch.

It was usually these mornings when she would go for the OC 4000. It definitely causes a deadening of senses, especially of pain.

The long term effect (I was with her over a year) was the deadening of an awareness of reality at any time. As the time wore on, she had less emotional interest in almost anything....even her child was kind of an afterthought in time.

Anyway, I see it as addictive for people that are afraid to face the day to day challenges of life because it clearly masks them.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but here in ... Mass, the drugstores are having to reevaluate their stocking procedures and their security solely due to this drug.
one night about a week ago there were three drugstore robberies, all thought to be the same group, and in all of them, all they took were the entire supply of this drug.

this is now the highest selling drug in the states, overtaking viagra which looked to be unstoppable. the only thing we love more than sex is addiction I suppose.

many people are comparing it to a heroin in pill form.

The FDA just Red Flaged OC friday it's the highest restraint level they can put on a drug without pulling it off the shelf.

My mother-in-law, The-over-the-counter-drug-addict is on OC and so is her brother. They're more hooked than a crack head in a coke factory!

I believe the heightened concern for Oxycotin is due to the increase in addiction and use by rural and suburban Americans. As RyanH stated in his post that Oxycotin addiction has been more prevalent in communities were its has become social accepted. Its relatively easy to use and acquire. Its use amongst young addicts mimics a growing trend in the party drug scene. Narcotics such as ecstasy and other well know party drugs have become a national concern amongst suburban parents and communities.

The growing concern amongst politicians, rural and suburban communities I feel is because the victims of this drug represent a much different demographic....a more mainstream American face is attach to this epidemic. No longer are Americans assuming that drugs only affect poor inner city communities.

I've seen crackheads use oxy.I've seen fellow juicers use oxy too.I had a good friend die recently from an oxycontin overdose. All he was taking was oxy.I don't know how much he had.I do know it stopped his heart for good at the ripe old age of 22.

Oxy IS out there in mainstream america. As it has been said people that don't consider themselves to be drug addicts are becoming addicted. If this continues it will surpass ecstasy as the drug with the most media coverage.

From what I understand it is a very powerful narcotic, a synthetic morphione, which would put it in the heroin family.

From my understanding Oxycotin is in the heroine family.

My question is why are Doctors prescribing Oxycotin so freely? Traditionally, the drug has been used primarily in cancer patients. But, somehow everyone and their brother is gaining access to this drug....i.e. Wodin's mother-in-law.

As Matt touched on---the drug is HIGHLY addictive. Apparently, it takes little use to get hooked on it. And, once you are hooked it's hell coming off.

LESSON: This is one drug I will NEVER try. Once you put your hand in the flame, it can be very difficult to take it away.......

Early this year a friend comitted suicide because of this drug...YES...It has made it's way to " Small Town America " Simply because the small town Doc's have known their patients for years and see no prob's with giving it out....SUCKS!!

Damn Matt, 1 year.........

You must have a lot of patience.

I she Ok? I mean taking such a kaleidoscope of drug
cocktails(esp Alcohol+cociaine+pain killers) isn't
going to do wonders for her health.

You must have known her for a long time before dating her.

Godspeed

Fonz,

Check your PM.

It was a rough time.

It is

pharmaceutical grade heroin.......but it has been around since 95-96.......just been overshadowed by other drugs.....like crack......It has been rated the most powerful painkiller ever made......stronger than morphine

i dont do all that mind altering shit anymore, that stuffs crazy,i would rather sit back and huff on a reefer

All this hype about OXY, had me real curious,
so I tried one half of a 40 and was fine (not real high, just sort of numbed out) for about 4
hours. Then major full bore vomiting- a few times, that
night and the next morning. I couldn't keep down a small
sip of water.

It was withdrawal and/or sensitivity to synthetic opiates.
I havent vomited for many years, and forgot what it was like.

I don't fiend for more, and don't understand the addiction problem. I guess I have other weaknesses,
and didn't take enough to have a problem with it,
but the pain was more than the pleasure .

recreational users mix te drug with gravol same way they do in the hospital so you dont suffer withdrawl, thats where ya went wrong

My uncle used to cook it up and slam it. $8 a pill on the streets. It's time released oxycodone (percocet). Once you break it up the time release doesn't work and it makes it very potent. You can then snort it or bang it. Nasty shit. I was just reading about it on erowid.com , i got a slipped disc and I'm on 4 percs right now.

1 80mg Oxy is equal to 16 percocets.

DAMN! That's potent.

I almost slashed my left hand in two several years ago in an accident. After I got throught surgery the next week I was on 4 percocet a day for two weeks. I was in la la land pretty much the whole time from just that.

Percodan/Percocet

Same active ingredient as Oxycotin. Same effect as heroin. Very relaxing. I used Percodan years ago. I used to use it once a week for relaxation purposes. Problem is that eventually I built up a tolerance to it. I had to take 5 hits for it to work. Slows the heart down too much. Snorted skag in Nam. Very relaxing. Never used the needle though. All of these things are just a legal version of heroin. Though I've never used it a friend of mine told me that Dilaudid #4 was the best.

many people are comparing it to a heroin in pill form.

The article's pretty interesting/depressing. There's some statistic that said there's lots of people who make the switch over to heroin just because it's cheaper than Oxycontin. Talk about a textbook "gateway drug"...

They're gonna have to pull this off the market. It's fake heroin, with all the addictive power.

$8 a pill??? More like $25.

And yes, the strength of it is why they give it to cancer patients...that is supposed to be the worst pain known to man.....

I agree, it;s coming off of the market.

Lat my dad has a bad back also he hurt it when he fell working for pepsi, now he is applying to the government to let him grow his own Weed for a pain killer,im like ill sell it on the side lol

Though not as Potent Vicodin is wayyy addictive.
My Doc put me on Vivodin for about 10 days for a bad back strain a few months ago.
I took it along with some Muscle Relaxer and it was quite lovely.
After about 6-7 days I stopped taking the Vicodin, cold turkey and that day I started to feel real bad.
Breathing difficulties such as having to forcefullly think about inhaling, Shortness of breath and Chest pressure
I thought I was haveing a heart attach and made a beeline to the Hospital.
All checked out fine and they said I was having classic Vicodin withdrawl symptoms...Scarrrrry.

That shit went in the trash....

That's old news. That stuff made headlines where I live 2 years ago. Now there's a dumbass personal injury lawyer filing a class action suit against the manufacturer. The problem is that it doesn't have the same effect if used as directed. To get high I think you have to crush it up and snort it or something.

I've had TWO good friends die because of Oxycotin.
This shit is fucking deadly. Why would you want to fuck with something that can kill you and is more addictive than heroin. There are indicators of growing abuse of and addiction to the synthetic narcotic painkiller OxyContin. OxyContin is a form of synthetic morphine taken in tablet form designed to kill pain over several hours. It is primarily used by cancer patients.

The drug is being abused by addicts who intensify it’s euphoric heroin-like effects by by injecting or snorting it. Dr. J. David Haddox of Purdue Pharma said OxyContin, when abused, can significantly slow breathing and is easily overdosed. The abuse of OxyContin appears to be most common in small, isolated areas, although no one is sure why.

According to the Associated Press, there was a meeting between the drug maker, Purdue Pharma, and law enforcement officials from five states on March 1, 2001. Those attending the meeting included officials from West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. OxyContin has caused an increase in crime and death in Virginia, where 32 overdose deaths have been reported.

Purdue Pharma said it would help combat abuse by making tamper-resistant prescription containers for areas of southwest Virginia where authorities say abuse is rampant and spending $100,000 on a study of prescription monitoring programs in Virginia. The company will also form two drug abuse task forces and investigate the illegal sale of drugs over the Internet.

Authorities said doctors may be over-prescribing the drug and making it too widely available. But Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. said he hoped doctors would not hesitate to provide it to those truly in need. ``Where there is pain that can be relieved, we want it to be relieved,'' Curran said.

What is OXYCONTIN?
OXYCONTIN is one of several OPIUM derivative available by prescription. It is a high potency pain reliever that comes in time release tablets that last for 12 hours. When used as prescribed it helps cancer patients and chronic pain sufferers manage their pain.

Why is it a problem?
Kids have figured out that if you chew/crush or snort the tablet that you bypass the time release feature and it will give you a high much like HIGH GRADE heroin but with worse consequences. Most kids are actually not aware of the heroin link and do not realize how DANGEROUS this drug is. 5mg of OXY has has as much active ingredient(oxycodone) as One percocet. So chewing/snorting a 40mg OXY is like taking 8 percocets at once or a 80mg Oxy is like taking 16 percocets all at once. Again KIDS just don't realize what they are putting into their system from ONE SMALL little pill.

What are the consequences?
Getting the full effect of the tablet all at once is like shooting high grade heroin but it is MORE addictive and more dangerous. Oxycontin suppresses the respiratory system and when combined with alcohol or other depressants it is often DEADLY. Often the user goes to sleep and his respirations slowly decrease until breathing stops completely.

Can a person LEGALLY prescribed OXYCONTIN become addicted?

Any Narcotic/Opiod used legally has the potential to lead to addiction

How much will cause an overdose?
Everyone's body is different but as little as half a pill when combined with alcohol or other depressants can lower your respiratory system enough to kill you. Taken in high doses OXYCONTIN alone can kill you.

What are symptoms of an overdose?
Slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, loss of consciousness, coma, confusion, tiredness, COLD and CLAMMY SKIN and SMALL
PUPILS.

There seems to be a LOT of incorrect info out there!! OC's come in 10,20,40,80 and 160mg(160s are off the market) They are not new(96) In fact they are a great drug for stage 3 pain ..ie cancer, burn patients-without the bad sides of Tylenol....You swallow them whole and they are time released for 12 hrs.
Now the problem: For some dumb reason people chew them and get hit all at once.160 is 32 percs!!! That would kill an elephant!!!
Another problem is the fact that they are a script item so people think its safe. I would MUCH rather eat MDMA than eat a OC40..but thats me :) Hopefully it takes the heat off the clubscene!!!! Mixing it with booze makes it even worse!!
#1 problem: It gets so expensive that people turn to H for their fix. H is THE WORST drug ever made.
