Over 40 Forum ???

Nelson Montana said:
As it stands, I don't see the purpose for so many separate forums. When you attend a party, there aren't room delegated to topics of conversation. Why should that be the case here?

A good point. I like hearing the perspectives / opinions of all ages. Sometimes I get a little impatient with punk behavior but EF has done a great job of keeping that off-limits and out of here. Punk behavior has little to do with age and everything to do with maturity.

It has not always been that way around EF. I remember some of the fights and stupidity.

I'm up for anything gentlemen. We can just keep this thread running.
As I mentioned earlier, Digger was kind enough to share that they are doing
some "reorganizing" at EF. We must respect that, and talk about a
seperate OVER 40 FORUM when Admin has time to give it their full attention.

So if it's OK with the MOD's and the members....... let's keep this going,
and discuss what ever we would want to discuss in an over 40 forum.

Agreed... so back to presbyopia... when did it hit you guys and what are you doing about it? I have worn glasses or contacts since I was a kid. I have a hard time with contacts now because I have to take my glasses off to read anything. I'm thinking Lasik where they do one eye for distance and one for reading. They say you adjust and it works. My father in law just had it at 60... yes my father is law is only 10 years older than me... and he loves it. The optometrist wants to sell me bifocals. So what have you done?

The word "presbyopia" comes from the Greek for "elderly vision." Fuck that.

Consider this option.

I am severely near-sighted. Contacts did the trick for years. Then at age 47 I began to have a hard time reading. So I bot a pair of $12.99 reading glasses at Walmart. That worked, but I was always looking for, or losing my fucking reading glasses. I hate glasses. My next trip was to the eye Dr. to discuss Lasix or some surgical cure.
Turns out I'm not good candidate. So what he did was give me one contact for distance, and one for reading.... IT WORKED! The eyes trick the mind working in tandem into thinking you have 20/20 vision - even though one is doing distance and the other the close work.
That might be an option for you RW.... Good luck.

At age 43 I went straight from no correction to bifocals. I've long since worn out that presecription and haven't bothered going back yet, 'cause I can see distance okay and only really need glasses for reading or the computer, so I get by with the drug store reading glasses. I might have to step up from +2.5 to +3 soon.

I have reading glasses planted in places where I'll need them -- a pair on my night stand, a pair at my desk, a pair in my car, a pair at work...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

What a pain in the ass! I did that for a few years.

Now:
Left eye - Lens; -6.00
Right eye -8.00

I can read the newspaper, and see distance at 20/20. NO GLASSES. NO SHIT.

1. WHY MOVE IT?

2. We have 49 Forums ALREADY!!!

-

Not sure I follow. As much as I have issues with T-mag their forum had just two catagories-- "Steroids" and "Everything Else." And that worked fine.

I can see if we weren't allowed to discuss age related issues here -- I'd be first on line for a specific forum. But no one is stopping us, so I just don't get the purpose.

Not trying to be a joy-suck here. Just sayin'

I think it would be beneficial in the sense that some age related questions could be discussed on the senior circuit board without detracting from the other board- and also because it would be easier to spot for vets looking in as there would undoubtedly be less traffic. I'm not on here 24/7 and sometimes when I check in there has literally been a hundred posts made...I just don't have time to sift and weed through everything, so I catch a few titles to check on with the time I have. If something is posted on the senior board, however, I know that in all likelyhood it's something that may pertain to me. Just my 2. :anon:

Good point. I forget sometimes that not everyone is on 3x's a day looking for the juiciest posts. :)

Thanks halfcenturian and mr db...I appreciate your experiences. I've got to figure this out oen way or the other. My wife wants me to look into Lasik so I will but no guarantee I will go through with it. I like halfcent solution of one contact for near and far. I wore contacts most of the time until the last couple years where I switched to glasses. I can hold most things at various focal lengths and read with out reading glasses but that's not a good solution.

Uh, fellas, I'd like to see this keep going, too, but the AAS board is NOT the place for it. Look at that list of 49 forums and pick one that comes closer to what you need in the short term, and let's continue it there. Okay?

We DO plan to weed out the deadwood, reorganize what's left, and see what fits the mission.

I think that mission should be "Show the world what happens when you take 'FITNESS' to the next level; what happens when FITNESS becomes ELITE FITNESS."

Hanging on to that level of fitness as you mature sounds like an obvious fit for that mission, so of course I'm in favor of this board idea.

As always, of course, that young whippersnapper George Spellwin has the final say. :D

I will look good till I die.
I will not go overboard like Michael Jackson, but there is a lot that modern medicine can do.
I will not look or feel bad because of a number on my birth certificate.

BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS. I'M NOT SURE WHY. IF SOMENE WANTS TO POST IN A PARTICULAR FORUM I SAY LET THEM. IF IT'S INNAPPROPRIATE, REMOVE IT. SOMETIMES PEOPLE GET HUNG UP ON WHICH IS THE CORRECT FORUM AND I THINK IT'S A LITTLE SILLY. EVERYONE SHOULD LIGHTEN UP. IT'S A MESSAGE BOARD . HAVE FUN.

YES, I BELIEVE THE TOPICS ARE ALREADY TOO SPREAD OUT. SO HOW DOES ADDING ANOTHER ONE MAKE THINGS BETTER? AS IT STANDS, WE HAVE THREADS IMMEDIATELY LOCKED BECAUSE SOMEONE MENTIONS A UG LAB. AND THEN THE MOD WHO LOCKED IT WILL MENTION A UG LAB AND THE PICTURES FORUM. I DONT GET IT, BUT IT'S NOT MY CALL.

LOOK, HC, I DON'T WANT TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE. I KNOW YOU REALLY WANT THIS AND I'LL BE HAPPY FOR YOU IF YOU GET IT. MY DEBATE IS STRICTLY PRAGMATIC. OUTSIDE OF A SHORT LIVED SENSE OF RECOGNITION, WHAT DOES ANOTHER FORUM REALLY GIVE US THAT WE DON'T ALREADY HAVE?

NAME ONE TOPIC YOU CAN NOT DISCUSS THAT ANOTHER FORUM WOULD PROVIDE?

AS MENTIONED, IF WE HAD JUST TWO FORUMS THAT WOULD WORK GREAT BUT I'M NOT PUSHING FOR THAT.

I GUESS I BELIEVE IN LESS AGE SEGREGATION, NOT MORE.

AGAIN, I'M NOT TRYIN GOT SHOOT DOWN YOUR ENTHUSIASUM -- JUST RESPECTFULLY OFFERING ANOTHER SIDE OF THE STORY.
