ok, i talked to the electronics manager last night at a 24-hour walmart.

ps3 goes on sale at midnight 11/17 (friday)

i plan on showing up at midnight 11/16 (thursday) to ensure i get a spot on line.

the systems are selling upwards of $1700. that's an $1100 profit.

if i get one, i will offer it up to my fellow EF brethren first, before putting it on ebay.

i somehow conned my gf (and possibly one of my buddies) to come and hopefully make some money. i don't know how she will hold up, though.

when it comes to making money on the sly, i am king. seriously.

at about 3 pm he will take a nap in the isle and wake up at 1 am
 
I know that at one local Walmart for the Xbox360 release they only allowed you to line up starting at a certain time. Then the manager came and handed out tickets with numbers to the first people in line.

They were allowed to come back at midnight and get the console.

That's a much better way of doing it.

So 600.00 new??? OMG! That is outragous! What makes the ps3 better than the ps2? I haven't heard a whole lot about the new one yet. My son mention that they were coming out but didn't clarify the differences.

i'm not quite sure what all of the differences are, since i am not a hardcore gaming buff.

however, i do know ps3 uses blu-ray instead of dvd (25 gigs vs 8) and sony and ibm spent more than $3 billion developing the processor for ps3.

it's also meant for hi-def tv's or something....

it's going to be huge.

Hey thanks people like you - for making it impossible for a regular guy to get concert tickets at a fair price...

I would think at 600 it would do something special. Humm, I might have to check into this but I will of course wait till next year when the prices go down. lol Everytime they upgrade you have to get new games to. I have hi-def tv and my ps2 plays on it just fine. There has got to be more to it. :worried:

but if he's not doing it, there's always someone else out there who will.
It's a no win situation and the consumer either pays or misses out.

I just went and look at the website, sounds like something I would want but not at that price. Like I said, I'll wait till they come down in price..they always do. ;)

the ones already up (those who pre-ordered are going as high as 1600+

plus, i will not off it immediately. instead, i will hold it till the first week of december...get the christmas money.

absolutly not.......I souldn't even admit this but I play the games with him!! We love it!! Our newest is Scarface. Not crazy about it but its alright..kinda reminds me to much of GrandTheft Auto. I am a wonderful mother! :verygood:

The xbox360's were going around $1000-1300 after it's release and the PS3 is a couple hundred dollars more.

Ksharp just wait until they fix all the bugs. All release consoles have problems that the company works out within a few months.

It will be a long time before the xbox360 or PS3 comes down in price. So I wouldn't wait that long unless it is not high priority for you.

I'd wait until next summer and you will be able to find plenty of PS3's and ones that work.

He didn't even ask me for one...thank God! He really wants a cell phone and new skateboard. Those are the 2 biggest things he asked me for. Sure as hell beats the go kart I got him last year that he never even rides!!!

Yeah that is what I figure also. So far the ps2 we have works just fine...no disk read errors YET!! lol Sure it won't be to long, this is his 2nd one as it is. Does everyone get that sooner or later? I think they are rigged to only last so long..time bombed. lol
 
downloading backups of your original, legally purchased ps3 games is going to be a bitch. 25 gigs vs 4-8 gigs?

I've read how the PS2 is still very high in sales, but not because it is that good...because people are having to buy 3 and 4 because they keep breaking after a few months.

Granted the Xbox360's had problems upon release, but my nephews still have my original xbox and it runs perfectly after 4+ years of use and abuse. That is a reason I shall be an xbox supporter.

PS3 is NEW technology that has never been tried before, therefore the risk of something going wrong is very high.
 
Just called my walmart looks like I'll be doing the same thing but the manager said the least they will get is 10 but damn straight i will be there i need to make some money

My Co-worker's wife works in the electronics department. She said they are getting 12 and the manager always takes one.

I think what we are going to do is set up a table close to the front registers, and put the ps3s and then nov 19 for the Wii's and extra controllers and games etc etc and then just send the ppl on their merry way up to the registers

when do you guys think people will start showing up?
is it on a first come, first serve basis?
do pre-orders get those before those who waited on line do?

midnight release because its a 24hour store, the waiting line will be set up in lay away most likely, no tickets for people who wait for a really long time, she said their going to do something "special" for the waiters but she couldnt be specific about it she said some thing like handing out food and drinks but i think there is something else looks like ill find out when i get mine

As far as I know Walmart, Kmart, Target do not take preorders, so it will be first come first serve.

Stores like EBgames, Gamestop, will require a preorder to get one at launch.

I am not sure about the profit of the Wii. There probably isn't going to be a shortage like there will be with the PS3. The Wii is cheaper and easier to make and so Nintendo said they should be readily avaliable to everyone for the holiday shopping season.

as of right now, we dont know how many we are getting. as the days get closer, we will
and im sure some walmarts dont know either. I am the manager over electronics and im not even sure how many we are getting.
When we do know tho, and this is what they did last year, its first come, first to get a number to get in line at 8am friday morning, if i were you, if i wanted one bad enough thats exactly what i would do, get in line 24 hours before they started selling, bring someone with you so u can switch out in case of a pee break
im sure you may not even be the first one in line coming in at 8 am on thursday morning either lol
 
oh yeah and no pre orders, employees arent even getting any "special" treatment this year. apparently some did last year in our store over the xbox and people got in big trouble over it

id say we will get them a day or 2 in advance so we can figure out how many we have to sell on D day

She doesn't work at Walmart

and the line is usually in lay-away or up front at the return desk so that they don't clutter up the electronics dept.

I'm actually hoping they fail, and MS and even Nintendo kick them out of the console race. I used to like them, but ever since the PS3 moved into the picture, Sony has turned into the most arrogant company lately, and they think their chips don't stink. I'd be the first one to say "awesome" if the PS3 turned out to be a disaster.

Holy balls that's crazy. When my friend and I waited for the PS2 launch date at Walmart we got there about 9 hours before, and we got three between us (his Korean gf was with us, she got one too). Then the next night him and I waited maybe 8 hours at Shopko and got another one to put on eBay. Maybe things are crazier now though. I wouldn't do that again unless it was at least someplace warmer than the U.P.

That's how I got my hubby's xbox. I was tempted to sell it on ebay for double the price and just buy him one after it had been out for a few months and pocket the extra 300-400 bucks..... but then I thought it would be cool to give it to him for Christmas since nobody else around had one, yet.

WHOA! REALLY!?!?!?!?! A good friend of mine(she was just my maid of honor)... her husband is a manager at gamestop. That's how I got my hubby's xbox 360. I was afraid he wouldn't be able to do the same with the PS3... but maybe I should call him for a preorder......
 
So what is the plan? Pick a store at random and wait 24 hours in line? Are some stores better than others?
 
It doesn't even look much better, if at all than the Xbox 360. Next year's top end pc's will trump them both in terms of visuals and processing anyway. Hell they already look as good as anything I've seen running on PS3's hardware.

Like I said earlier though, their commercials are pretty cool. If I didn't know better they would've already sold me on it.

One thing I am really curious about though is Nintendo's Wii. Playing the new Zelda with that controller for a couple dozen hours must be a good shoulder conditioning workout.

Well if he is the manager he may can pull some strings, but during the Xbox360 launch EBgames and Gamestop took too many preorders and could not fulfill them all. There were a lot of angry people.

Since then they have limited the amount of console preorders they take. That added with the very limited North American release of the PS3 and what you have is only a few per store. Preorders are already full.....at least if you want a PS3 by Christmas time.

Your only chance is to camp out or buy from a crook like p0ink.
