One Arm Push Ups

Who here does these with frequency? I realize they are more of a test of strength than anything else. What about regular push ups?

Last night I was out with some friends and since I am the fit and sober guy I usually get a bunch of shit. My drunk buddies challenged me to some feats of strength. I can never back down from a challenge lol. Long story short I did three cleanly repped one arm push ups right handed and one clean rep left handed followed by 57 regular push ups. This was really surprising to me since I haven't done a push up in what seems like years.

I think I should include push ups more often in my routines for shoulder and core stability. They are actually funner than I remembered :)

Nice bro!

i know a lot of guys that spread there legs out so wide and go down 2 inches and go down sideways and count that LOL.

The best way to get strong at one handed pushups is to start at a high incline, like a counter, then go lower, and lower until you finally get to the ground.

I can do some on my right, probably none on my left, even though when i bench the last rep my left arm/chest is stronger and goes up first LOL. Just a matter of practicing the one handed pushup

I've always been good at 1 handed push ups. I think I could probably do 25 in my right arm. Left arm I'm not so coordinated.

if you did them the way i directed you, i bet you couldn't do 15...

5 count down.. hold for 2.. 5 count up, do not lock out at any time on the up..

the reality is you won't get 3 done.. your energy levels will drop past the 34 second mark..

give it a try..

but 54 is above average depending on your age..

do it timed, and lets see how many you can do to failure or 1 minute..

watched a young guy this weekend do 124 pushups.. we waited 1 hour.. and had him do as i described above.. he got 4 done, shaking and trembling..

if you lock out at the top stopping the muscle contraction.. start over..

LOL wait 7 days so he can recover from the 124 them give him another chance.

5-2-5 is easy if you train that method.

That sounds fucking evil. I'm loaded up on Beta Alanine so I might get 6 or 7 before the lactic acid gets to be too much :)

by keeping the muscle under contraction it does not allow blood to enter the muscle, and lactic acid builds up.. oxygen starvation and causing the capillaries to explode and allowing for new development of (hopefully) of white fast twitch muscle cells.. = making you stronger..

Learned a lot this past weekend.. the bio mechanical function and science of it all is actually very interesting..

still .. eat big, lift big, rest = growth.. it all means the same thing..

not unlike Mike Mentzer's "1 set to failure."
no need for 3 sets of 10, that's for kitty cats who can't stand the discomfort.

i've done statics..

His sounds like Lactic acid training, or raising the tolerance for the pain associated with the production of lactic acid..

It does work.. or rather it can if you can take the pain long enough to cause damage to the muscle..
