Olympic Style Weight Lifting VHS & MANUAL - IronMind

Just ordered yesterday. Should arrive Saturday or Monday.

Interested to learn the proper clean & jerk technique. Snatch can always use some work also - but I'm doing that one pretty decently for a newbie.

I'll critique this one versus all the training hall tapes CoolJ posts up.

SNATCH!

I have seen it part of it, it isn't very good unfortunately - sorry :)

Jimmy just does not compare to the elite guys. Anyway it's just a basic instructional tape, and he doesn't really explain the lifts in detail IMO.

The ironmind tapes are candid videos of elite level olylifters in training halls just doing mainteniance workouts before a competition, except the Polish 2001 one which is more like a normal workout.

Really nothing beats a coach, seeing a video is one thing, but you don't notice all the subtle details that make and break the lifts

Thanks for the - uh - letdown. :)

I'm still interested to see some of what they have to say about the C&J though. Never hurts to have something else to look and listen to.

My "coaching" right now consists of a hammer thrower who I see in the gym once or twice a week. Considering his expertise - best I can find around here. Short of travelling to Columbus.

York's.

4 - 20 kilos
4 - 10 kilos

pair of metal 5 kilo plates

some rubber coated metal plates

One decent Eleiko training bar.

Rubber floor platform (no wood lane in the middle - I wish).

are you allowed to drop the weights?

anyway your lucky you ahve a proper Elieko bar to use. The spring and smooth spin make olys that much better

when I reach my short term strergth goals, I will start training once a week at a proper Oly gym in my city. It is a bit of travel but once a week will be OK. I will get access to proper platforms, Elieko bar and bumpers, jerk racks and some coaching.

Oh hell yeah we can drop. That's part of the reason I got into doing these lifts. One to be explosive. Two to drop heavy shit. Three to annoy/scare/piss off people.

Seeing people jump and come to the back room with a scowl on their face after you drop 80 to 90 kilos from over head (about 7') is priceless. Especially when they see me standing there all sweet and innocent. The BEST are the idiots who complain to the YMCA "trainers" about me dropping weights (or the Olympic hammer throwers) --- only to be met with " but sir/madam, that's what those weights are for".

Priceless.
