The profit margin doesn't deteriorate.


The wholesale values depreciate right along side the retail values. It's actually quite the opposite with the profit margins. If anything the profit margin will increase.


The only way I get hurt in this situation is if i'm sitting on a lot of inventory I bought when everything was high. Buy high, sell low doesn't really work, but I turn my inventory about every 45 days so I'm good.

oh, i know...i'm just saying that even if they do? history would suggest that you will sell more cars (because the pool is bigger) and your bottom line will improve through quantity of sales rather than quality of sales.

my used car client's biggest complaint for the last few years has been keeping their lots adequately stocked.

cash-for-clunkers, big 3 turmoil and the economic downturn (people started driving their cars longer) eroded the pool to the point where they were scrambling looking for decent cars to acquire/sell...and the regeneration of the pool has taken a long time.
