Hey Sceet, welcome aboard!
there's lots of cool people here, don't be afraid to ask stuff...if it's about a specific drug or routine or whatever, you can use the search function, but, you're asking a more in depth question.
I started lifting 2 years ago, at 30 yrs. old. I was about 215 lbs at 29% BF 6'1". Now I'm around 250lbs at approx 17-18% Bf after 1 year of bulking, I'm gonna diet down.
Here's what I did: When I started out I did cardio 5x/week and lifted 5 days /week, doing 1 body part each time. I dieted like crazy (at the recommendation of a trainer). Basic diet, moderate carbs, high protein, no junk food, except maybe on 1 cheat day. I got down to around 180 lbs maintained it for awhile, but I did it naturally. Then after getting my endurance up from all the cardio and training, I bulked up again to gain muscle. The reason it's a good idea to lean down before bulking is 'cause the weight you will gain while bulking will be more uniform i.e. you'll gain everywhere and not just on yer gut! I trained 4 days/week dropped all cardio and ate ALOT, I used FINA for my first cycle at 37.5mg/day for 6 weeks and gained 20 pounds and kept all of 'em. Alot of people disagree with using Fina on a first cycle, but, I'm used to injections (I work in a medical prof) and I had a good friend who is knowledgeable about juice. I went on to do a test cycle as well and gained about 10 more pounds. Now I'm back to dieting and doing cardio with alot of more muscle on me than before. This is the way I did it, but it seems to have worked so far, good luck, train hard, you're never too old.
