Do you need to wear a suit. - I know a silly question but I am meeting this woman to check out some jobs she has to offer - Very casual setting though. My only concern is that I dont want to rock the suit to work too often and give the job search away!

All the recruiters I know are more of the business casual style.

I've been to soooo many meeting with recruiters / headhunters....

Their job is to make sure they have a sellable product.. and if so to sell it. You don't have to go in wearing a business suit to meet with them... in fact, I'd recommend against it.

Headhunters are scumbags that really could give two shits about anyone. They sell you on the company and sell the company on you and if you make a connection they win whether you were right for the job or not. Go in jeans and and old raggy T-shirt and tell them I just wanted to meet a real life scumbag. They are right up there with lawyers, the IRS and Insurance companies! In my industry thay call all the time and I send them on wild goose chases!!

How are they scumbags if they are giving you a much higher paying opportunity they know of than you would have had otherwise?

Also Companies do not always like going through headhunters because they get a big chunk of what was offered to you as your yearle salary. Anywhere from like 25% up. Who do you think pays? Yup the company and ultimately you with a lower salary and/or incentive bonus. If you go directly to the companies they do not have to pay all these fees and are more loose with an incentive bonus or a larger yearly salary. Headhunter 101! learn to say Thank but Fuck you, I am worth it and can get a job on my own without you to them! Um unless you have like a degree in like basket weaving psychology or sociology or something then you might want to be a little nicer!

Sorry for my rantings this a.m. I got up out of the wrong side of the bed but luckily I stepped on a headhunter and kicked a lawyer (Without them or any witnesses seeing who did it) rear-ended an IRS Representative and screwed my insurance company cause otherwise I ould be a real asshole about it! lol!

I hear you on that - A few of the positions available I cant find through the company directly (checked that out first) - Looking to "hopefully" make a big pay jump and dont want to mess it up!

Perfect match actually. They will make you sound lie the very best employee ever and when the employer eventually finds out you are lazy and lets you go you are both worse of than when you started. Your resume looks like shit, your jobless, THey are out of an employee in a position they wanted to fill, costs them money in fees and training and the scumbag headhunter is sitting fat and happy with his check.

btw you said you were lazy I am just repeating your words.

I always wear a suit, but fornuately if I have to talk to a head hunter, it is normally on the phone.

99 percent no that is an excergeration 100 percent of them are worthless, well not really quite that good.

(ignore the bad spelling, I just spoke to a head hunter)

business casual, i've seen people go with jeans and a decent shirt, headhunters could care less

i don't know why people are ripping on headhunters, you only go to them if you need them

it's not their fault you take the job

that's like being mad at a barber for cutting your hair "wrong" despite telling him to do it the wrong way

be upfront and direct with them, cut out all the bullshit

then again if you're a mush like cob man you'd probably get fucked

You dont know me. I eat headhunters alive! I would never go through them.

Its o.k. a lot of young guys just getting into their careers feel real important when a headhunter calls them too! They are good at making you feel like you stand out above the rest. Why else would they be calling you and not little Marky in the cubicle next to yours. Yup I must be Exec Material to be getting this call. Lets keep this on the down-low! lol!

After learning to read through the bullshit you will realize the same as I have stated. Come back and let me know what you learned when you get another 11 years in the business world under your belt

sorry, i didnt make myself very clear earlier. When I said lazy, I meant only when it comes to looking for jobs. When I am on the job, I am a very good hard worker. But I just hate having to look for jobs.

Oh my apologies.

But they are perfect for lazy and worthless employees no doubt

yeah, that is sadly true. because headhunters talk up their employees and not nearly as much verification is done when a headhunter makes the connection.

Also, You know little about them if you think YOU go to THEM. I have talked to many many of them and it is always them that call and hound the shit out of you. If you tell them no then three to six months later they will call you again. You know because they are your buddies and all and just want to make sure everything is going all right for you. Since you deserve at least three times what you are making and they are the only ones who can get it for you! PFFFFffft!! Ask them to cut their fees and see what that gets you on their christmas list!

The head hunters I worked for got calls from companies after having open positions for 3-6 months that their human resources department couldn't fill, and they needed the spot filled now. The headhunter gets the job done. The headhunter will never negotiate their fees w/ the prospect they are trying to get hired, you gotta be kidding me.

headhunters do collect a pretty penny for the job they do. i bet they make quite a bit of money every year.

i should become one, lol, yeah right, if the area around here wasnt already infested with enough of them!

One, I was kidding you because thats what they are in it for, BUT Two I have a friend that actually did it successfully! Dont think all headhunter companies operate the same way. It all depends on whats at stake!

and i read the content of it and find out its a headhunter.

Yeah they will get far tricking people like that. Everyone enjoys feeling like they were tricked. That is the most disrespectful way a headhunter could possibly contact any prospect employee period VIA the prospective employees current company email. I would totally contact the SOB's if they did that and let them know how long they will not last in the industry contacting people that way. Word of mouth can destroy them as well. Especially in a specialty focussed industry. They can get people fired that way. In my field a lot of the times if a company you work for even hears you are considerring working elsewhere they will let you go imediately. They figure your heart is not in it where you are!

You have to have a rediculous amount of contacts before even considering it.

Well met up with her this morning - Went in business casual - We spoke about the suit situation and she told me most people wear business casual in order to be discrete at work.

Seemed like a good experience. Showed me a few positions she had at companies I wouldn't mind working for at supposide nice salary ranges. We will see what happens.
