ok , quick insulin question .

"Fat will be boosted by the insulin..." Sleep through your freshman biology class in college?

Bodybuilders often claim this... can some MD or Biologist on the board please explain how synthetic insulin somehow has a way to bind to fat molecules in the bloodstream to transport it when the body's indiginous insulin does not have this ability? If so, why don't we just manufactor insulin that does not do this, and resembles naturally occuring insulin structurally? Hmmm.... you guys are confusing me now...

I happen to be friends with someone that is looked at as being a notorious abuser of the stuff in the BB circles... He flat out told me at 275 his body doesn't need any more than 2iu's a day! That might give some insight as to why other people get fat from the amounts they use!

people will always think that if 2 is good 4,6,10,15,20 must be better

BBF just didnt expplain it thats all hes talking about duchaine in taking insulin to go into ketosis faster and shed bodyfat, but if you dont know how to apply the diet correctly with the slin youll go into a coma instead,
BBF have you tried slin on a keto diet? i used it a few times while on my self but felt like crap,
later

Yes, I've tried it. It works very well, but fuck talk about being among the walking dead... that is why I said don't try it if you have a job. I gained muscle and got leaner at the same time, just felt like I was going to die the entire time.

As I stated before, its carbs that insulin transports to your adipose tissue. It is not a carrier protien for fat, and cannot shuttle dietary fat into your fat cells. The idea is rediculous. If anything taking in large amounts of essental fats prior to shooting would reduce fat gains, since they cause increases in insulin sensitivity in muscle tissue and might allow for a higher % of the insulin to find its way to receptors in muscle tissue that would otherwise carry the glucose to your fat cells.

Sorry BBF, but apparently you're the one who was asleep:)
Insulin is an anabolic signal. The binding of the hormone to its receptor initiates a series of events within the cells that results in the increased uptake of glucose into the cells, where it is converted into metabolic energy or stored as glycogen and fat. Insulin stimulates many metabolic reactions following receptor binding:

stimulates glucose transport
stimulates amino acid transport
increases glycogen synthase activity
increases the rate of general protein synthesis
depresses lipolysis and protein degradation
5 seconds of searching found this. See the last entry? Depresses lipolysis, and what is that? Fat-burning. Maybe I wasn't clear in how I said it, but insulin DOES decrease your ability to burn fat, meaning you'll store more of it. It does a LOT more than just stimulate carb uptake bro. I've been in medicine all my life, and you're a smart guy from all I can tell, I assume we just missed each others points on this one.

Ok, that I understand. Yes it does slow down lipolysis. What many bodybuilders seem to think is that dietary fat will transported to adipose tissue by the insulin, just as glucose in the bloodstream produced from the carbs they eat is. This is what I thought you were implying.

Yes that's what I was trying to get at, I usually tone things down for general explanations but you're a bit too bright for that, lol. I'll remember to try and state exactly what I mean from now on when you're involved ya smart bastard :) And btw, can I please borrow your receptors?

Decreasing lipolysis is not the same thing as storing fat. Raising your serum insulin concentration will not magically take your recently ingested fat and stuff it into your adipose tissue; it's not possible, just like with protein and carbohydrates. Everything has to go a series of metabolically-expensive conversions before it can be stored as fat.

No it's not the same as storing fat directly, but if you're releasing and burning less, and you have high amounts in your bloodstream, more of it will get stored than if you had very little in your blood. And also, fats don't need to undergo a transformation, they're already lipids. Once they're bound by carriers like HDL and LDL, they can get stored right away, so that's why I don't like fat with insulin, it just skews the equation in the direction of fat gain.

Fat needs to be a free fatty acid and then estered to a glycerol molecule before it can be stored in adipose tissue.
