and it seems everyone needs at least 2-4 years experience... i'll be done my certificate next spring and i'm worried i won't be able to break into that job market...

anyone have thoughts?

alot of the time employers will say they want x to x amounts of experience, what that does is weeds out the people who are willing to go for it from the people who are willing to just say forget it, they want someone with experience....I'm not saying all employers do it, some do want experience....but to the employer it looks like that you are motivated enough to call them anyway, you take risks and get the ball rollin.......good luck, I know you'll find something.....and if not theres always that prostitution thing(just kiddin)....hope I helped a little:D

Hello there chica :wavey:

I just seen a story on the national news last night about the job market situation and they asked a temp agency up in New York what the ratio of jobs were to the applicants registered looking for work and they had 300 jobs listed to 4500 applicants. Somewhere else they were estimating the unemployment rate would climb over 5% by the end of summer here in the U.S. I hope that's not the case. How is it in Canada?

i should know but i don't think it's as bad as your stats at the moment... anyway, i'm just worried because i don't want to have to go do more school after this - if i have to i'll go do a marketing degree or certificate... but i don't think i should have to go that route. i mean, i already have a BFA and part of an MFA and i'll have a visual communications after-degree certificate at the end of april...

a recession is the best time to be in school.
if you get done with the program, stay in school, work on any projects you can get, even if they are smaller to build up your resume, then when you get out of school hopefully the recession will be over.
they trend towards the shorter side in comparison to the "good times"

thanks k...

i haven't yet signed up for my classes but i was told by a counsellor at the school that i should do the graphic design over the digital media because it is more broad and teaches a variety of things.

apparently employers would be happy to train employees on digital media according to the counsellor.
