Nobledude said:Do you guys change your oil at your car every 3000 miles or every three months?
A friend of mine told me that every 5000 miles should suffice and the 3000 miles/3 months requirement is just a ploy for auto shops to have demand for their business...
what do you think?
digimon7068 said:imho 3/3,000 is excessive. . .i've had a couple of vehicles that i ran up well over 200k on and i usually changed it about every 5k. . .
PICK3 said:I go with 3k oil changes because I only drive 5 or 6k a year. So at the 6 month point, I'm reaching to get 3k miles.
Again ... it depends on your driving style and the car.
I change my oil every 7500 miles. I use Mobil one.Nobledude said:Do you guys change your oil at your car every 3000 miles or every three months?

PICK3 said:What did the engineers who designed and built your car recommend in your owner's manual?
j/k ... I don't listen to them either.
But it really does matter on your driving style and the car model.
Many new Hondas have 10k recommended OCI's in the manual.
Oh yeah, Smurfy in 3, 2, 1, ...
jnevin said:The car comes with perfectly good oil. No need to change it, IMO.
PICK3 said:note to self: don't ever purchase a used vehicle from jnevin
TC2 said:actually most new Hondas(if they're like mine,06 Honda cvic) have oil sensors in them now that show a percentage.
I just had mine changed yesterday. the percentage light came on at 15% oil health and I had like 6,200 miles on it.
But then my driving is almost exclusively highway miles.

I dont know what type of filter he uses.PICK3 said:and then puts a FRAM (a.k.a. "the orange canister of death") filter on it?![]()
PICK3 said:Not my fault ... I use to buy it.
No it's strickly DINO's and 3k changes for me. Probably Havoline.
and whatever you do ... stay the fuck away from FRAM filters.
digimon7068 said:if you actually change it every 3,000. . .you probably don't even need a friggin filter. . .

PICK3 said:from the "Filters to Avoid" Section of a study:
Penzoil
This filter is a Fram! It is the exact same design as the Fram Extra Guard filter and it is junk. On the up side, it costs $1 less than the Fram version.

theoak01 said:good to know man,i get that pennzoil synthetic and thats what the oil change guy put on,I think ill buy my own from now on and give that to them
PICK3 said:Pennzoil Platinum is good shit.
I got confirmation that Lumberg does not in fact use FRAM filters, he said no one in their right mind would ever use a FRAM. He uses SuperTech filters.PICK3 said:Seriously bro even the cheapest Walmart (Super Tech) filter is better than FRAM.
FRAMs have been know to degrade and fall apart in the cannister.
Personally I like WIX filters. Btw, NAPA Gold filters are made by WIX.

swatdoc said:BMW recommends 7500-10,000 miles for most cars, but they mostly use synthetic oils now.
Most German car manufacturers recommend 5,000 miles for regular oils.
I've never changed oil more often than every 5,000 miles.
