Oil change...how often?

Do you guys change your oil at your car every 3000 miles or every three months?

A friend of mine told me that every 5000 miles should suffice and the 3000 miles/3 months requirement is just a ploy for auto shops to have demand for their business...

It really depends on how hard you drive your car. If its a high compression engine and you drive it hard you'd probably wanna go with synthetics and replace about 4k miles or so.

Average joe could probably get away with 5k miles.

I go with 3k oil changes because I only drive 5 or 6k a year. So at the 6 month point, I'm reaching to get 3k miles.

absolutely. . .there is no hard fast rule when it comes to auto maintenance. . .if you use a vehicle to tow a boat or a camper, you probably ought to change the fluids in your engine, tranny and diffs a little more often than you do in the grocery-getter. . .

I change my oil every 7500 miles. I use Mobil one.

actually most new Hondas(if they're like mine,06 Honda cvic) have oil sensors in them now that show a percentage.

I just had mine changed yesterday. the percentage light came on at 15% oil health and I had like 6,200 miles on it.

But then my driving is almost exclusively highway miles.

Seriously bro even the cheapest Walmart (Super Tech) filter is better than FRAM.

FRAMs have been know to degrade and fall apart in the cannister.

Personally I like WIX filters. Btw, NAPA Gold filters are made by WIX.

With BMW their is no need to change it every 5k. Read the owners manual. 15k is correct in most BMWs

Some BMWs (M cars) use forged internals and use oil in part of the cooling process
