Obama=wimp?

“In the same way that our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy was shaped profoundly by 9/11,” the president said in an Oval Office interview on Friday, "I think this disaster is going to shape how we think about the environment and energy for many years to come.”

I dont see him mentioning cap and trade though.

And as I mentioned above, were gonna have to get rid of our oil dependency eventually (eg in the near future). May as well start now.

LOL @ that being it. I know a BIG group of blacks and minorities here in MD that do nothing but say "Obama is terrible, he ruined the economy and I cant afford to get health care and blah blah blah". Just about everyone I talk to blame Obama for every issue we are having whether he had anything to do with them or not.

We're the minorities here in MD, don't get it twisted.

He didn't make the big banks give out shady sub-prime mortgage loans, he didn't run all of these other companies into the ground. He hasn't FIXED the problem, but he has a WHOLE staff of people that obviously haven't come up with any great ideas either. Health care was going to be bitched about no matter what, people wanted change in health care, they got it. Maybe people should have complained more about how doctors and pharma companies charge $200 for an x-ray, and $300 for an antibiotic or other medicine. If you didn't NEED insurance to be able to AFFORD an regular checkup, maybe there wouldn't be issues in the first place.

Actually the democratic party played a huge role in the housing crisis via the Community Reinvestment Act.

Where Barry is screwing up is by creating massive uncertainty around health care costs, labor policy, energy cost, debt/interest rates/inflation and corporate governance.

Faced with all these uncertainties, businesses simply aren't going to hire people. They'll hoard cash, outsource, cut costs and move jobs/markets overseas instead. If I had to take a wild unsupportable guess, Barry's probably already destroyed around 5 million jobs and in the process of destroying at least another 5M jobs for a very long time (at least a generation).

It is also unfair to compare a planned, callous attack aimed at civilians with an accident that occurred in the pursuit of a necessary natural resource.

I "half" agree with you here.....my problem is that BP's record the past couple years is so comically absurd that I can't give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake made in good faith and in the pursuit of a necessary resource. If all oil companies operated like they do I would not be against the complete and utter discontinuance of oil as a source of energy.....and the use of force to enforce this policy if necessary. With their record and what's coming out from the platform workers, it's hard to call this "an accident". It was more like inevitable negligence.

well now, now that we have some context it's clear he's not comparing the two directly at all. It's pretty clear he's saying that the galvanized response between the two incidents will be similiar and in fact necessary as was the response to 9/11. What could you possibly hold against him here? He's 100% dime on the money.

Barry's MMS shouldn't have been spending their time surfing porn, doing drugs and taking gifts from oil company representatives.

BP's punishment...and well the whole oil industry by association....should be that the MMS gets staffed entirely with greenpeace hippies. They will be so sick of those people within a year that either they stop drilling altogether or they excercise such tight safety protocols that the hipsters can't say shit. Either way we win.

How exactly would we win with hideously over-regulated and unnecessarily expensive energy?

Is China not kicking our butts hard enough as-is?
