Nice 5x5 workout

To begin with, the principal of 5x5 is obvious, five reps each set for five sets. As for the exercises done, the 5x5 method recommends working each body part at least twice a week.

LOL - I guess it was just a matter of time until the term '5x5' got thouroughly bastardized. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

FWIW that's not the worst program I've ever seen, but the term '5x5' is basically synonomous w/ Bill Starr and his work. 5 sets of 5 reps is just 'packaging'; the magic is in the method of progressive resistance and reliance on the big lifts and exclusion of the little stuff.

I thought a style of training that has at least 30 years of development by some of the best strength coaches in the US would be in pretty good shape, but some clownshoes from the BB.com forums proved me wrong. Time to revamp my training!

it seems much more exciting then the regular 5x5...............5x5 really needs some pull-ups and chins cuz my bi's are lacking and pull-up game is wack.....im adding some to mine and weighted bench dips.........im going to be doing the workout you see in attached file.

What's the objective? Results or excitement? If you have a short attention span then do whatever floats your boat. If you want to improve your lifts/physique then run it as outlined.

I can't figure out if you're kidding or not.
You go to the gym for that kind of excitement? Do some boxercise, or take hip-hop dance. Learn the slide.

Holy shit, I can't do squats 3 times in one week. :worried:

Just one thing......HOW THE FUCK DID THOSE PEOPLE WIN MONEY?!?!?!!?!?!?

Jesus Christ, I post 100x better workouts(ala "buy SS") at least twice daily and I haven't won shit.

That first program would kill you within 6 weeks. Not only do they have running 36 sets a workout, but the suggest 90 seconds between sets. I'd be curious how long someone has actually run that program, strictly.

5x5 my ass. 5x5 is more than just 5 sets of 5 reps. That guy has no fucking clue to even suggest that routine is 5x5. What a dumbass. The bad thing is it confuses people about what 5x5 really is.

no i just looked at it again, and realized how retarted it was. But i don't plan on do anything as stupid as that. I changed the original 5x5 a little bit. You can see the new attached file below. I did these workouts this week and I just loved it. Didn't feel like i was overtraining, had perfect form for squats (went a little past parellel -wasn't fun) and good bench press form keeping my chest up and shoulders out of play. Today Im doing the friday workout, i'll see how that goes. Also, my clean bulking is going very good and i didn't cheat once. All clean foods and i made a minor diet change for my pre-workout shake - i swapped 25g dextrose pre-workout with 25g of carbs from organic oatmeal flour with two tbsp flax oil and 60g milk and egg protein. I just drank that 20 minutes ago with some cinnamon and some stevia, wasn't too bad, but i had to use 16 ounces of water. Also i added descicated liver tablets -3 tablets 3 times daily. My throat is getting very dry for some reason from all these clean foods. I already drank half a gallon of water and its only mid-day time and still dry throat. I guess its more of a mental thing then actaully my throat being dry. But wow, how much i loved monday's workout. Going from chins and pumping the bi's and then going to weight bench dips and blowing up the tri's gave me a mind blowing pump. Loved the squats and bench. Not a fan of rowing but had to be done. Im about to hit the gym right now, put the weight up.

Cool. Tell us, how did you become so much smarter than the progenitor's of these programs to enable you to design your own new and improved version? Maybe you should PM it to Glenn Pendlay and Bill Starr.

That's what it's all about!

Rule to live by: Don't fuck with the 5x5s already designed...... Your intuition isn't superior to hundreds of people's studies.

I agree Guinness.... It's a great program that has done me well. All of my lifts have reached new PR's for me and I have no signs of having to slow down. Read up on the program... Easy to follow.

i like my workout. everyone is different. I know what works for me. Doing the 5x5 the way it is doesn't mean every (natural) bodybuilder should be doing it in the world. Not like i made a big difference to it anyway. If adding these exercises feels like its making results worse then i will remove them.
