starting my first cycle soon. also changing gyms soon. any of you guys know which gyms in new york city have the most plentiful connections? also, are there any gyms here that are serious iron pits, rather than the cruising scene which most gyms in nyc tend to be???

just try and find one that has a decent price. All the NYC gyms i've heard about have been way too much money!!

decent price? in new york?! ha!

sort of have to rule out price i think. so that leaves good equipment, decent people, and gear flowing free and easy!!

any ideas?

You must be leaving Bally's!! HEhe me too. I got this reply on fitnesboard.com when asking the same question:

Midtown - perscriptive fitness is cool
Downtown - Johnny Lats (basic but decent atmospehere 10 bucks to train for a day)
Crunch down by Astor Place ok - lafeyette
If I'm not mistaken Johnny Lats is open 24hrs and is very inexpensive for a year membership

He also said these tend not be into the gay cruising scene.

thanks lewd tenant....johnny lats is right by my office, so i'll check them out. i'm leaving crunch -- too much attitude and tired of getting cruised.

also, read the timeout article -- it's funny. all the info on different classes you can take and which yoga-pilates-elliptical treadmill thing you can ride on......but what about the weights??? doesn't anyone in new york lift?!

Also go to presciptive fitness's web site.they have a free one month trial. It is expired, but I emailed them and they said to print an email they sent me and they would honor. My punk ass forgot about it(offer was available for 2 weeks) so I will have to remail them.

I think someone said they had a lot of free weights...

Cheap gyms in NYC?????

Good cheap gyms in NYC???? Bwahahahahahahaha!

Well, got that outta my system. I workout at Crunch @ Lafayette. It's expensive ($84) per month) but really good, terrific weight setup, a few really huge dudes working out there. Not a "hardcore" gym, but a fun mix of people. I used to work out at "Hardcore Muscle", on Park Place in the financial district, which I think is now "Hardcore Fitness". Operative word is 'hardcore". Good weight setup, lots of huge guys working out, if I remember about $60 per month which is about as cheap as a decent gym in NYC gets. I think Dolphin Fitness is pretty cheap, but don't know what they're like. The World Gym chains are very nice, but expensive.
