New York City -- Opinions?

Citruscide, forget about moving to New York unless you have a very high income. if you are trying to get a job within the city try commuting from Ct. The real estate prices in Ct. are much more reasonable. I am in the process of closing on an apartment on East 51st for around 3mil, which is at the low end of the spectrum for this particular building. The apartment is nothing special. For 3mil you could purchase a very nice waterfront property in Darien, which is within reasonable commuting distance to the NYC. Also, if and when you make the move, you will quickly find that the main negative is the "trash" that filters up from Jersey. Good Luck.

I like you already.

I lived and went to school in New York for a few years......

And it's simple: New York is the best city in the world----aside from London and San Francisco.

Nothing compares.

nyc'er over here...

love love love love LOVE this city and will never leave again. I lived down south for 4 years, and met people from every state (yes alaska and hawaii included)

I consider myself an nyc expert (my dad has actually written some of those tourist pamphlets you get at hotels)

Pm me....I can answer any and all questions. I am especially good at finding apartments. You can live outside manhattan for cheaper, but I personally think living in manhattan is something everyone should experience :)

Yes, things move much faster here than anywhere else, but you will get used to it. Damn, today I was just over in CT and it took me 20 mins to get a coffee...can you say slow mode!!

Well, my income should be fairly high... being one of them lawyer folk... so rent shouldn't be much more of a problem than it is here... Shit, I mean, in the gold coast here in my city (Midwest metropolis) it costs around 1000-1200 for a studio, 1300-1700 for one bedroom and over 2G's for a 2br... so sounds about the same.

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys... if I did make the transition to NYC I would come here and get some advice on where to live, and the such... until then, I'll be happy where I'm at! :)
