eh I dunno fellas...they evolved. I like this new sound alot better than recent metallica, and just as good as the old metallica...I can't really make a full judgment until i hear the whole thing though
 
I heard it yesterday. It sounds too thrashed out. Not enough controlled tension. Not enough of anything cool, for that matter. It sounds like less mature music than the badass shit they put out on there first albums when they actually were young. I'm not even disappointed, because I've given up on Metallica. I like there old stuff. I even liked "Load" and "ReLoad". But this is bullshit. The best thing all Metallica fans can do for Metallica is not buy any more of this tripe so they'll finally accept that they need to hang it the fuck up.

Or email them and tell them that you were happy to download their shit first so they could avoid buying it.
 
Lol everyone is a critic. They could put out the most amazing music, and people woud find something wrong with it.

That's true, but not in my case. When people were screaming "sell out" back when "Load" came out, I thought they were being ridiculous. I liked a lot of the next one too. I've paid good money to see them in concert on two separate occassions. But that "St. Anger" song I heard yesterday sucked a bushel of boiled turds, my friend. I was like "What the fuck is this shit?" when it first came on. I didn't know it was Metallica. Then I heard the vocals, and I thought, "Goddammit, that's gotta be James Hetfield, no question. Which means....this has gotta be Metallica. Bummer. " :(
 
I watched the video today, and it was pretty bad. I was hoping that one of the inmates was a music thief and was gonna shank lars. You know, an old p2p junkie who got caught and put in prison. And it started really good, and went so downhill it was like linkin park or something.
 
I just downloaded a shitty radio rip of the new song. I hope it's just the quality of the song. Because this isn't good.

Same riffs over and over again. Simple chords. Simple drumming. Horrible vocals. Where's Kirk? No solo? This much too nu-metally. I like nu-metal too ... but not when a band that defined a genre plays that way though ...

There are no solo's by Kirk on the album. I was hoping that they would come back but their songs are sounding like garbage. You can listen to 2 of the other songs on the album from thier site. This may be it for Metallica.
 
The lyrics are repeated over and over. There is no point or direction to the song. It's really bad, regardless if you are a metallica fan or not. I am not a fan, but this is still a shitty song however you look at it.

They're long due for a name change, as they are not 'metal' anymore.
 
I was listening to "Master of Puppets" yesterday for the first time in a long time, and it reminded me of just how awesome and powerful their music used to be and in contrast, how absolutely shitty their shit is now.
 
I was finally able to listen to the entire song instead of the 30 seconds clips on their site. I like the fast speed metal beat but the repetitiveness(sp?) gets pretty old. This always happens to bands once they go clean. STP is a perfect example. Once Scott got off heroin, their music absolutely sucked. Red Hot Chilly Peppers are the same way. Hopefully St Anger isn't the supposed best song on the album
