New Implants

I am a petite body builder and am having implants put in
soon. I have been encouraged by my surgeon to go under
the pec muscle. Will this hurt my bench? Will the definition in
my chest (not the boob, the cut) be altered dramatically?

I keep my diet very clean and have a low body fat content
most of the time. The surgeon contends that with the low
body fat and my small frame that implants on top would show
and not look as natural.

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks NitroNurse

I went below the muscle

It was very uncomfortable doing chest presses of any kind. I just in the last year had them removed and went above the muscle. Much better!

implants

Thanks Barb,
Are you pretty lean and do they look natural? No Ripples?
How was the recovery time under the muscle vs above?

I'm having trouble getting my bench back up. I still am unable to do very many wide grip pull-ups and dips also. Really anything that has to do with my chest has to be light. I went under the muscle about 9 weeks ago. My doc was great and does have good knowledge(she did a few of the women who compete in fitness at the Olympia)but I didnt tell her I plan on competing. I wish now I would have. Yes it did alter my cut. I was very lean at the time...9%bf. Hope this helps a little.

I went under and was about 16% bf when I went in. Had been training for many years. Mine were unders, and then I started training for my first bb comp 3 months later. It took me about a month to have full range of arm motion and I was still being careful about driving -- just hard to do the check behind before making lane changes, etc. When I first started training for my bb comp (followed 16 weeks later), my chest was very tight. I explained what I wanted to do to my doctor, citing that I had been able to get that pec split in the past. He assured me that despite the cut in the pec muscle, it would not affect my ability to build those muscles.

It took awhile to comfortable be able to press anything significant. Basically it has to do with getting any scar tissue broken up / getting the implants "comfortable" in their spots. It was like trying to work out really tight, sore muscles. Occassionally I would get some funky muscle twitches while doing pull-ups and some back exercises towards the ends of sets. After about a month of "working out" the tightness in my pec muscles, it was no problem.

I can see the doc's point about "overs" show the ripples, etc. at really low bodyfat. When I hit 10% and lowerI could start to "feel" the edges of the implants on the outside edges. You just really become aware of how thin your skin is as you start water depleting too. They would sort of hurt sometimes - not due to anything wrong - maybe just the weight of them with the thin skin.

Somewhere along the line I heard that DD's weight 4 lbs total -- mine are D's - so I guessed that I added another 3 lbs to my chest. Your center of gravity shifts a little, so you might become aware of sore lower back sometimes, and the weight of them sometimes really seems apparent as you dry out the subcutaneous water pre-contest, but its not bad. You also seem to be able to feel the edges of the implants at very low bodyfat. I never noticed any ripples. The only really weird thing about unders is you will notice a sort of funny pull on the skin when you flex your pecs. You'll know what I mean. Its not bad, just kinda weird.

You might ask your doc if she has another patient who is a bb/fitness person who might be able to call you and give you some insight. I would also check out the chat room at www.implantinfo.com or the discussion forum and see if anyone else there has some experience there.

Good post Sassy69...thanks. I thought I was weird or something because I can see mine on the sides. More so if I lift my arms above my head. Good to hear I might be able to get my old chest back. Thanks for the hope!!

I had mine done under the muscle..its been almost 6 years ago...before I was into lifting etc. They looked fine when I was a skinny runway-swimsuit model..then as I started lifting #1 they began to look a lot smaller #2 you can see the ripples when I diet down for a show and even in the off-season, but not as bad #3 I don't really like it and would not reccomend it..if and when i get the funds i will go over the muscle..I would not go under if you are a bb.

well....i went over the muscle....and i had no problems....now im not lean by any means....but you cant see mine at all. i also know that legs had hers over top too. less recoop time if over the muscle. :)

oh yeah and PumpGirl has them currently under and is getting them redone to be over,,,,(i think :)) but you can take a look at her pics..

and is this ms lobo?? :)

IMPLANTS

HELLO Nitro:

I'm alittle late with this reply but better late then never.

I am lean and have had my implants for 3 years now. They are under the muscle. I wouldn't have done it any other way. Your doctor is right with regards to being able to see the implant if they are over the muscle (since you are lean). Also with them over the muscle, it is hard to detect any problems such as breast cancer etc;

With regards to training your chest after surgery: With any surgery you must heal! After a full recovery, I had not problems resuming my chest workout.

Alittle late but hope this helps!

Bella

over or under implants

Thank you ladies and of course Lobo.

The information that you were kind enough to share is a great
help.

I think that I will probably go under the muscle due to my size and
age. The fact that at some point I will be able to do serious chest
and back work was my main concern.

The recoup time is a concern, however, as Lobo will be quick to
point out, I have a difficult time staying out of the gym so a little
rest would probably be beneficial.

No I'm not Ms. Lobo but I'm a third party most of the time.

I'm the appointed proud "auntie" of Mr. & Ms. Lobo's adorable
baby girl!!!!

Thanks again for the input and help. I'll let you all know how
things go.
